Groucho marx and , "You bet your life". Man, I hated that program. My father loved it - so we were stuck watching it. Didn't eeven have TV until I was in High school. Mostly spent my time in my room building model airplanes and listening to Wolfman Jack out of Buffalo, N.Y.

Scott - "Your Hit Parade" was my favorite comedy show. Snooky Lansen and Giselle macKenzie were completely out of their element when all the hit tunes became Rock and Roll. They were hopeless! The show went off the air shortly thereafter.

Dave Klipfel:

If you were listening to WKBW in Buffalo (and who didn't?), did you listen to Joey Reynolds at night? I heard him the last night he was on the air, when he came in stoned, lost it and proceeded to trash the station. Priceless!! And how about Irv Weinstein's news delivery?? Even though I lived in Massachusetts, KB could be heard at night and was a mainstay (although I listened to Imus in the Morning on WABC (or was it WINS?) in NYC on my way to school in the morning).

For all you smokers out there: South Carolina has the lowest cigarette prices in America (even lower if you get'em at the PX on base) - $2.50 per pack at the local convenience store, $20 per carton. the legislature just tried to increase the tax on them and they had a minor rebellion on their hands.....

You guys are older than dirt! I'm not sure about the "Cough in Carload" cigarette myself, but some how Chesterfield rings a bell. As far as knowledge of cigarettes go, I remember Wings which came with a picture of airplanes and I collected them as a kid. Started smoking at 16 and quit at 31 when I was smoking 3 packs a day. Figured that if I made it back from Vietnam in one piece I didn't need them anymore to calm down. Oh yea, cigarettes were $1.10 a CARTON,in the commisary on base, when I quit. Also remember listening to the Perry Como, Jo Stafford show on the radio as well as Fibber McGee and Molly, Amos and Andy, Tarzan, Gangbusters and This Is Your FBI. When is the last time you saw a Gas Station attendant wear a long sleeved shirt bow tie and have him ask "Check your tires and oil?" excluding Gomer Pyle in Mayberry.

I think it was Camel cigarettes that sponsered some TV show. At the end of each show an announcer came on and said how "proud we are to supply free Camels to the following veteran's hospitals this week . . . "!

Often wondered how many vets they put into an early grave doing that?

Gordon - all I remember is the Wolfman, and I thought he was pretty wacked out. The small town where I grew up really put a limit on my awareness of the rest of the world. No newspaper, no TV (until senior year high school) so radio was an escape into rock and roll. A majority of my high school had cow shit on their shoes from morning chores when they came to school every morning. My freshman year in college was a real eye opener on social issues!
Dave:

Roger the Cow shit....I grew up on a farm, too. We were milking around 120 twice each day (good sized farm for Massachusetts). Very few of those dairy farms are left, now.

I took a couple of years off to the Peace Corps. after High School and then started College in Boston in 1969 - the year of all the Student strikes - a great introduction to life, I guess..... At 20 years old and a World traveler as a freshman, I was the "grandfather" on my dorm floor.

My high school escape was Ham Radio (my friends were all over the World) and listening to a small transistor radio at night and into the wee hours of the morning: Rock on WKBW (Buffalo), WBZ (Boston), WOWO (Ft. Wayne), WABC and WINS (NYC) and WWVA (Wheeling, West Va.) for an occasional Gospel fix. It was cool that AM signals stretched out farther at night!!
