Remote Oil Cooler & Filter Advice Needed.

I'd like to get some suggestions about mounting and location for installing a remote Oil Cooler and Filter.

Russell, this first one (green car, below) is in a JPS. Same location. The cooler is mounted on isolators; little sections of rubber hose through which the bolts pass. You want the fan to be able to circulate, instead of flat-mounting it to the bulkhead. The oil filter is hung from the 2"x2" box tubing around the engine that the engine compartment bolts to.

I believe that was an EMPI unit, but I can't recall. Special Edition (Beck/Carey) recommends the Setrab cooler for its reliability and durability, and this location is in the throw pattern for road debris. Not a huge deal, unless you have a pea-gravel driveway or hit rough roads on a regular basis.

Mine is the orange one. I mounted it on the far end of three feet of braided line, well out of the way and up a little from the centerline of the engine. The stock Type IV oil pump in my car does a great job of pushing oil to both that cooler and the Bus cooler in my fan shroud.

Mine is mounted horizontally behind the driver's seat, under what would be the "back seat". As Cory said, it's a Setrab. I have never seen any indication of any road debris hitting it in that location. The rear mounting behind the wheel looks awfully vulnerable to me.

I own an 1/8 mile gravel drive-way. So, that's where my oil cooler & fan is. My filter is behind the left rear wheel though.

Bob, where did you get the alum oil cooler hard lines? Did you flare to AN? why not stay with braided flex lines? The hard lines look super sanitary!

Russel.... I am using a type 4 engine, so the filter is "built in".... The pic shows the location I used and the access cover..... Hoses etc. were no problem..

Doug, Purchased the hard lines at the same location as the fittings. Same diameter as oil filter set up. Have not heard of or have personally experienced any debris problems. Many on this site place cooler in same location. To each his own. Good luck!

Kudo's Leon - great idea! Can reverse and put cooler inside in the winter for interior heat! Amazing how much dead space is back there in the CMCs.
