Hello to all…..I am trying to change out my “ignition switch and lock cylinder” on my CMC Speedster. I have disconnected everything from the ignition & turn signal module. located on the steering column. There was a number located on Module 113 905 851A which I tracked down to a 74-79 VW Bug steering column Lock Housing. With all that said, the problem I am having now is - With my ignition key turned to the ON position, the next step is to slide the Module off the steering column but cannot get it to slide off. It seems to be hung up on something. I also noticed that there are no holes in the module to put a sharp object into to release the key barrel. Any suggestions on what my next steps should be? It would be greatly appreciated. I have also attached some pictures for your review…..Thanks

As I recall you needed to drill a small hole on the side so you could press in the spring clip and the tumbler would come out ,
there might be a photo in the Bentley repair book
According to the Bentley Manual, there should be small hole in the barrel that the key lock mechanism fits into. Looking at the end of the key mechanism, this hole should be at around 10 o'clock. The exact hole location is 11mm down from the top of the housing, and 11mm back from the face of the housing. The manual then says if this hole is not there, you must drill one in that location to allow you to stick a piece of wire in there to release the mechanism. Once the hole is drilled and the wire inserted to hold the release lever out of the way, turn the key to "start" and pull the mechanism straight out. You may need to pry it out of the barrel with a small screwdriver.
Hello.....thanks for the feedback! Since I don't have a copy of the Bentley Manual can you 'all give me a hand on determining where the 12:00 POISTION is on the switch. I attached a photo of the starter switch in the OFF position, can this be the 12:00 position? Please advise......Thanks

No. Forget which way the key is pointing - It’s orientation is irrelevant. 12 o’clock is straight up on top of the housing that holds the key mechanism. I’ll try to scan the Bentley photo for yah. Cool your jets a bit.
These attached PDF files look a little funky to me after scanning, but see if they look OK to you. If not, let me know and I'll try something else - I scanned them from a very old laptop because my old scanner doesn't speak 64-bit to my newer laptop.

Yes, it looks like I will need to do some drilling to get a piece of wire in there to help remove ignition barrel. Along with that it looks like I will need to pry-up on a metal cover that they put over the set-screw location to remove the plug at the back of the housing. Thanks again for providing the information on that, it has really helped out on what I am dealing with.
Does the manual say anything about how to remove the lock assembly housing from the steering column itself? Since I have come this far it seems that I should be able to get it off easily, but something is hanging it up when I try to pull it off. Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Larry
Removing the lock assembly housing is not covered in the service manual. Sorry.
