I went to Rennfest Reunion 2007 today. It is being held at the Daytona Speedway, home of NASCAR. There are some very nice older Porsche race cars that are participating. Everything from a 1953 550 Pushrod Coupe that was in the 1953 Carrera Panamericana to Gulf 917 from Le Mans fame to Current factory cars. I am not a big racing fan so do not really know the significance of some of the cars. They are sure cool to see fire up in the pits and roar out for practice. Like at Monterey or Coronado Classic races, you can go right into the pits and see up close the whole deal. PCA has a display of cars with one representative of all models through the years of street car models. Some beautifully restored and some perfect originals. Of course the car that drew the biggest crowd???????? Yep, the 1956 Black Speedster! It was a beautiful car and the owner was answering a lot of questions about it. I would love to have it. But I would much rather have my IM Roadster or a nice Vintage or JPS or Beck etc. and $100,000 in the bank. I am so glad to be able to afford to drive such a fun car that is so loved by all kinds of people with out having to worry about RUST, parts availability and price, did I mention RUST, etc. Keep on Speedin!

I have done some driving in Mexico over the years, and 25 years ago the roads were REALLY bad. I looked at the tiny 1953 coupe with the pushrod engine specially made for the race. It was so small inside the drivers compartment, no sound insulation, no air vents to the cabin. What a torture driving the race must have been. I did not have my camera with me so no pics. There was a 16 cyl. car from 1970's or 80's that was a screamer. I wanted to go today to the actual races but I had other commitments. Really interesting event.
No, No......you can take all the pictures you want!!

The last Rennsfest (three years ago) was at Lime Rock and a bunch of us went out. There must have been 600 Porsches there, including many, many vintage racers and cars belonging to the "only several left" club. I think there were over 120 cars in the 356-only parade, alone!

PLUS, there was a small crowd of vintage racers there, too - the drivers, AND their cars. You could walk right up to them in the paddock (I honestly only recognized a small few of them, but some of the other, older guys with me were going nuts) and ask for autographs and pictures and they were happy to do so. A paddock pass was something like $30 for the weekend, too, on top of the race pass.

I had planned on going to this year's Rennsport Reunion, but decided to do the Hilton Head Concours show with Lane Anderson and our wives. Had a great time there, too!

BTW, Cory: I have a picture from this weekend of a new Ford GT (looks like a GT-40) painted in the Gulf colors. I'll try to get it on here tonight.
