Rennsport Reunion is an event by Porsche North America to showcase race cars and drivers of significance from Porsche's past. The Porsche Museum brings lots of nice cars, and individuals from all the world also bring cars to the event. The first 3 were on the East coast. This is the first event on the West coast. I attended in 2007 at Daytona. Lots of famous cars and drivers were there, and the pits are open to see, touch, smell and hear the cars. There are quite a few sites showing photos of the previous events. A good one is http://www.pelicanparts.com/swapmeet_pics/Rennsport3/page1.htm for lots of pics. I've already got my Motel 6 room reserved!
Warren, I might bring Big Blue, but I wanted to reserve a room just in case Diesel is above $5.00/gal. I'll be taking the Targa up, so for 4 days it is easier to just get a room. But if a crew wants to go and camp I may get Rick to drive the bus up and have it on site. It sure is nice to have a camp site right at the track. I am sure that I can sell my room if need be. I hope to see you there track-side with your camera!
I have great memories of Laguna Seca. In 1962, as a high school kid, I piled a bunch of buddies in my old junk Chebby. We had sleeping bags, gas money, and just a little extra coin (Hey Mister, can you buy us some beer? Here's the money. We, uhh, lost our id's.)

We parked on Hwy. 68 the night before the race, climbed the fence and walked about 4 miles to the track, lugging the beer. Camped accidentally in the infield at turn 8A, the bottom of the corkscrew. While watching the ract the next day, and drinking beer IN PUBLIC, a '61 or '62 'Vette lost a wheel and tire coming out of the turn. It bounced on the track, flew over our heads, and rolled about a mile through the infield.

At that moment, after the tire flew harmlessly over our heads, we looked at each other, drinking beer around adults, being at the sports car races, close to danger, and thought: are we cool or what?

A genuine American Graffiti moment for some young, broke, unsophisticated kids. Viewed through the selective lens of almost 50 years (yikes!) of time, it couldn't get much better than that, unless, of course, there were some young tomatoes involved.

I have been back a few times since, and turn 8A in the infield is still my favorite.
