Set of EMPI Anodized Aluminum 15 by 5.5 Porsche 5 by 130 bolt pattern.  These are the latest  version and are very good quality.  They are all round unlike many replica wheels of late.  Intermeccanica sent these out for Custom Paint on the inner paddles.  They are Painted Dark Chocolate Brown (not black),  Will look best on a Ivory, Beige, Tan, Brown etc... car.  They have 5400 miles and are perfect.  email marty @ cfgoa.com

Terry, the add does say "For Sale" I am a nice guy but not a philanthropist.  I would take 100  a piece plus shipping. That is one third of the cost to buy them new and have them professionally painted.

 

Ron, I have commissioned the guy that makes the Alex Bivens wheels make me a one off custom set of billet aluminum wheels.  They will be an exact duplicate of the 944 Turbo Spares that you may remember from the Rick Davis IM6.  I purchased a wheel from Ebay and sent it to California to copied and have custom CNC program run  

 

These new wheels are gonna look bad-ass!

Behold, the 944 turbo spare wheels on Rick Davis' IM/6: costlier than you can imagine (if a man can even find them), after being sent out for another infusion of cubic dollars for widening and powder-coat. Crazy light, and the coolest wheels you will ever see on a 5/130 drilling. Bar none. If you want something that whispers "don't mess with me" on a later brake hub, this one's your huckleberry.

 

The fact that Marty is having a repop sourced is beyond cool. I want a set, and they won't even fit my car.

 

And oh yeah, $100/ is crazy cheap for those EMPI wheels. The hub centers alone are worth 2/3 of that.

Lane,  Thanks for the advice.  My car has no side moldings, the Carrera trimed bumpers and Carrera Decklid.  I Also have the Talbot bullit Junior mirorrs that are paint/chrome combo.  Same with the my fog lights.  Rich Drewek has helped me with some photo shops of similar wheels and I think(hope) I am on to something.  Ricks car and mine are very similar.  I'll be running some custum Hub centers to button up the look. Plus, the quality of these wheels will amaze you.  They are automotive jewelry.

I'd like to get these wheels for my CMC which is on a '71 IRS chassis. I presently have 914 replica 2L style wheels(4-bolt) which fit no problem. I'll be changing to Ty 3 Porsche pattern drums in rear, and, change my existing front rotors to match. Can anyone advise me what else to check in order to avoid any issues.

Don't post very often as I've been procrastinating in getting this car completed. Now that I'm finishing up, I'm sure the question/problems will continue. I'm in NH, and, have run into a few of the guys on this site at the VolksVair Car Show in Shrewsbury, Ma. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

As much as I love the outlaw 944 spare look Marty, I'd hold onto the Fuchs if I were you. I've got a tire rack (purchased, ironically enough, from Tire Rack) that hangs in the garage for spare wheels/tires. I used to have two, but when I redid the garage into "super-shop", I didn't have the space anymore-- so now I have one in the barn. I'd make you a screamin' deal on it, and you can take it back with you from Corn Daze.

 

As Terry says, a girl can never have too many shoes.

Think about this. When you travel in the summer and you take your tropical weight wool Hickey-Freeman tan suit, don't you also take two pairs of Allen-Edmonds shoes. A pair of classic plain toe lace-ups and some less formal slip-ons so you get both formal and informal use of the one suit. I won't even get into ties and dress shirts ( button cuff vs. french cuff and coordinated collar choices).

 

Your beautiful car deserves the same flexible sartorial splendor as it's owner.

Its very endearing how you guys are looking out for me.  I have some interest on the Fuchs already.  The best reason for me to keep them would be for resale.  I mean if I ever sold the IM.  I would probably want to keep the new wheels for any future projects.  But that is many many years away (if ever).

 

The wheels I am having spun were in my original plan but not my original budget.  Plus, the scarcity was an issue.  Deep inside me there is a little demon thats has been contained by a good women and family life.  I am now a tame version of my former self.  The 944 Turbo Spares actually fit the inner me .  At least for the short while when ours cars remind us of the our crazy youth. 

Marty. I guess those Porsche spares are awesome and all, but I don't yet understand why, style-wise. They look to me almost exactly like the steelies on my wife's 2005 Corolla. So can you school me? Are those things made of titanium? Do they weigh less than 5 pounds? Are they self-propelled?

 

Do they look exactly like a LeMans winner circa 1956 (like those Image wheels actually do)?

 

Again, i know this sounds cheeky, but it's really not. You're obviously going for something here that I'm just not in the loop on, and I'd like to be.

Trust me danielson.  This is going to complete the look of my non-traditional car.  You can make the 944 Turbo Spare look old and or outlawlish or look a bit more modern like Rick Davis did with what apears to be a paint/powder coat.  For me it will be a full on high polish which will soften the toughness some but also bring on classy look. Escpecially with some polished Fuch Lugs and a custom center cap.  I have been known to have pretty good tatse so let it play out and then we can judge.  The Fuchs are very good but they do not fullfill my 356sickness 100%

Fuchs are so overdone. Every hood ride VW has them. It is the most repeated style in wheels today. I like them but why not be a little different? I've tried several looks on Penny and I will try more ( maybe Fuchs) but I really like my current look.

Marty, I definitely see your vision. I believe it will look even better than Rick's car.

Fuchs is a nice looking wheel, but I have to agree with Terry; with the proliferation of replica wheels the Fuchs have become too common.

They do seem to go nicely with the 356 body, though.

 

Here's one of my favorite wheels on a 356.  Unfortunately, the ones I can afford won't fit my car because of a low offset.  If I want a custom offset I have to pay a lot more.

I agree, Fuchs are on the common side these days. I like roundy-hole wheels too (TDs has almost-round slots, 15 of 'em). Just not yet getting why the Porsche spare is a rare, necessary and mega-spendy get. I've got some 15 x 6 Nissan Altima 4 x 4 1/2 pattern wheels in the garage that also look a lot like the wheels Marty is having made. 15 holes. No hubcap nibs or ridge.

 

I guess we shall see.

Marty, I think I know what itches and why you're scratching.

 

For me, the Fuchs have always been so tied to the 911 that they never seemed quite right on the 356 - almost like a 356 is trying to be like its more popular brother.

 

The styling idiom of the 356 has its roots in the 1930's and the 911 was the company's forward-looking break with the past. The Fuchs fit perfectly with that new look, but, to me, seem somehow out of step with the art-deco cues of the Speedster.

 

I agree - I think your new wheels are a better match with the 356. But then, I like peanut butter ice cream, too.

Ok Marty, I'll hang in there and see how they look, but remember, I'm the guy who still has a hard time accepting Wide Fives, to me they look the the hub caps fell off.  They have grown on me a little, especially with the extended studs.  It really is all about personal tastes, and who the hell cares what anyone else thinks.

 

Ron.  Speaking of personal tastes.  Those are the wheels I like the least of all!
