my experience with an alternator replacement first involved sorting through all the fun stuff here about how it can or cannot be done easily, or like some kinda beeatch. Gave some serious thought to pulling the studs in favor of taping for strainserts and bolts. Here is how it ended up: found I could undo enough of the shroud bolts to lift and tilt said shroud just enough to allow the fan to clear the alternator stand. The REAL problem was getting the fan off the old alternator. My able assistant (Cory Drake) and I proved incapable. Had to take the parts to a shop (Tif's in Annapolis) and have Tif, who probably has done 1,000 of these, use his commercial air gun to knock that nut loose and reattach same to the new alternator. then it all went back in reverse order, like it says is the shop manual.
