Great Paul, I just asked how things were going on the thread "class". I read it before this one. What was I thinking? I do know all the fast food places on I-5 and all the cheap places for gas. Unfortunatly I cant get us back to 1999. I had the tank out of my car and when I filled it up in Dixon, it was over 30 BUCKS!! I bet we will see $2.75 somewhere Knott's weekend.
Hey Gang,
Kerroookookookookookookookooooooo! Canada calling with Molsons on the way!
I am finally ready to hit the road. I'll have about 15 miles on the new engine and transaxle in the Speedster before the trip but California here I come. I just filled up with some of Ron O's high priced Canadian premium gasoline! Boy, the Molson Canadian will be the cheap fill up this week! Who cares, we're on vacation and let the good times roll! I have coffee with Henry last Saturday here in the valley. He is leaving Wednesday and driving the new red roadster to L.A. Too bad he can't split a little early and join us on I-5.
I meet up with Bruce W. around Medford Wednesday morning and will see a few of you in Tracy that night. Look forward to meeting the rest in Buena Park. Have a save journey everyone.

When It Rains It Pours!

Last minute stuff to deal with:
1. Was replacing snaps on windshield post that hold the rain flap to the post. Same size..... put the right one in and crack... a 1/2" windshield crack where it evidently angled (my fault) enough to catch the edge. Ok, it's not visible from the outside, but I'll be staring at it all the way to LA from the inside. You can bet I'm ordering one of those $170 windshields in our 'For Sale' area.
2. My CSP system was supposed to be ready (ceramic coating today). Nope... someone got sick, and they said next week. I just took it back and slapped it on as is.... guess that detail waits until May.
3. Yesterday - Tore some stitching on my brand new Speedster style seats. Don't know how I did it, but I did. Took them out and dropped them at the trim shop.... luckily I still had these stock cut downs from VS.... so I slapped them in last night. They are in great shape so... still it's frustrating.
4. took the tires down to a local tire shop, had them all rebalanced and slapped back on. I showed them how to put on the Super Caps... and watched them.. it all apppeared ok.... Drove home, heard a pop and saw my left rear Super Cap rolling up a sidewalk.... super. Some scratches and a nick on the ceramic crest. Sh*t.
5. The topper. Was driving home from working out and the viper system fired up in full alarm and would not shut off. I pull into some place in a rough area and started looking for a fuse to pull... all the while I had street folks coming up asking me for a buck for gas... found the fuse and shut off the Viper, and lost all lights cept signals and brakes. Came home and sorted through wires for hours until I found the gremlin. I hate wiring.. I hate it when it's someone elses layout and not the way I would do it... a lesson there.
6. The cherry on the topper: My on the turn signal dimmer switch went tits up last night. Checked around, maybe one here by Thursday, I leave Weds. So, I wire in a small push button dimmer/brites and hide it in a small bracket on the under the dash cross bar.

Other than that.... It's been a breeze getting ready. I mean no glitches of this sort for a year or two.... then this stuff!

See you there!!!!!!!!
Jim
Hey Jim,
Sorry to hear of last minute problems but hopefully all will be fine for the drive out. We all have them, in fact I have the same WS crack only of the passenger side from the same cause. Oh well. My drivers seat has small seam splits (due to 25 year old vinyl) too, but it's not going to spoil any fun we both will have with this gang at Knotts. I always like to have one obvious blemish on a car so that people notice that and overlook the 10 others that are semi hiding...... The drive will make the trip and I wish you bon voyage on your long journey.
Rick
00000000H Jimbo,
I hear you loud and clear. Last minute catastrophes, miscues and missing parts! Yikes!
Yesterday I went screamin' out of the shop looking for a stud conversion kit for my wheels. Gary Clarke had dropped in to see if he could lend a hand and I did a Houdini chasing parts. All last night I kept hearing Ted's parting comment about wheel offset, over and over and over and over and over I heard these words of warning...
and then one of the bosses calls me acting all surprised that I'm takin' some time off, he of Mr. four cruises a year fame, "hey did I tell you about the time I went skinny-dipping in the east Indian Ocean with blah,blah,blah..."
Oh man,oh man. I needs a vacation, what was I thinkin'?
Gary, that bra have bumper cut outs? Fog light cut outs, if not, I'll buy it!
