I am in the process of retrofitting the thermostat and vent flaps into my VS 1776 cooling shroud. I have succesfully installed the vents and thermostat and have test fitted all pieces. I am doing this install to a 30HP doghouse shroud with heat vents.

I am amazed how badly the replica engine tin fits. I have been using some original 45 year old tin where needed.

I have also discovered some missing pieces which I will be adding. These are the rubber seals between the dog house cooling exhaust shroud. I also found the small pieces that were not installed under the rear of the head shroud (VWC-131-119-357 and VWC-131-119-358). These pieces are available at CIP1.

Does anyone know where to get the foam seal that VS uses in the engine bay to seal the engine tin to body? I would like to add some to the front of the engine above the flywheel.

I plan to post the pictures of the process in my photo section soon.
When i installed the flaps and thermostat in the test shrouds we saw the engine temps GO UP all the way across the board...

They do help to get to operating temp, but my testing proved that they hamper cooling instead of aiding with the cooling like most people believe.

BTW, a certain 36HP aftermarket shroud took the cake! it beat everything else, even stock and 3 orsche 911 systems!
The "spark plug vanes" that Kirzinger speaks of are VERY important to cooling! We saw head temps drastically impacted when those are removed.. They direct the air to the corners of the heads and direct it more to the exhaust ports- thats the hottest part of the head.

I saw no improvement with the TIII under cylinder tin, just that the engine was 4HP weaker with every power pull when we used them (air cannot get out of the shroud and pulls HP)
Please explain what the spark plug vains are. Are they attached to the big cylinder tin or underneath?

I am trying to get my car to run at temperature when I drive around town in 40 degree days. With no thermostat the temperature never registers on the gauge unless i hit the highway on a warm day.

I am running a 1776 with doghouse and stock sump.
Found the air diverters in betweent the spark plug holes. The tin that came on my VS doesn't have them.

I wanted to use the VS tin due to it's nice paint but I will have to use the old stuff. I will settle with the trashed look for this year. Maybe next winter, when I am sure the leaks are cured and the thermostat doesn't overheat the engine, I will repaint the tin.

After fitting my old ugly cylinder tin, I am amazed how well the parts go together. I thought the problem was the shroud. I see now the problem is the cylinder tin.

Does anyone recommend the type III Cool tin?
