Well I need a new wiring harness, things are shorting out.
Some questions
1. How much is a new wiring harness and how much should it cost my mechanic to install it?
2. I am also going to put in a new ignition, so where can i find a good ignition that is for the replicas, and has a replica key or porsche appearing key?
3. Alos i will put in new gauges, where is the cheapest place to find these
4. Anything else i should consider when rewiring? or replacing at this time?

Check with Vintage Speedster or JPS for a wiring harness. They may be less than a West Coast Metic item. The cost depends on who you have do the work. I had a buddy do the work and got a great deal. Ask around I would imagine the day would take an experienced person at least one full maybe two days. There should be easy access. No interior Lights, speedo, oil temp,..etc. Mark everything you take off and even some digital pics would help.

Check CB performance for the cluster or gauges. You may have to do some fiberglass work on the dash to get them to fit. If your IM is like mine was, I had 914 units(bigger) origianlly and wanted the green face units. Kirk or John may have some in stock too (VS & JPS)In fact go to their websites and they have a list of items they sell to build your car.

Don't cut corners. I would invest in quality items that you will enjoy using and that will be a selling point if you ever sell. And if you want to sell let me know, I would love an IM with a tube frame. I am running on a pan now.

I have used Vintage Speedstes wiring harness on 6 Speedsters and also converted it to use on two '23 T Bucket roasdters Wihile it takes a bit of time to figure that wiring diagram that you get with the harness it is easy to install and inexpensive. The VS harness comes with a prewired fuse board but the relays and flasher have to be furnished by the installer ...If you decide to go with the VS harness and get hung up in the installation feel free to email me and I'll walk you through it...Alan
I have used the JPS harness. Check out JPS's web site for pricing. Very resonable.... Good diagram and John is very helpful with questions you may have. Fuse box included and already prewired. You do have to finish the ends of the each wire though and also the flashers are not included.
Contact me if any more questions.
If you have an IM, then the next thing is to ask Henry to re-string you one. I was contimplating this...then I saw his system of making new harnesses, then I just fixed mine with a new diagram that you can print off his website. Mine was only partially "screwed" with a couple of deck install hack-ups and a changing of the steering column. If I needed a new one I would make a deal with Henry.
