Check out Procar by Scat . https://procarbyscat.com/produ...seat-type/recliners/ They have one they call Pro-90 Lowback which is the closest new seat I could find. Other than those, the real ones sell on ebay. That is how I bought one.

Why not? I have Roadster seats in a Speedster.

Ray. Keeping the Spyder. Thinking about building this. Greg Leach says he has never put Roadster seats in a speedster or coupe. But there is always a first time. My butt isn't getting any younger. Obviously it would be a Pre A and not a 1964 like this one (a beautiful Emory).

Great stuff @550 Phil I was wondering about that myself. It must be why I have not seen roadster style seats in the coupes that are made.
I am not sure if you could get roadster seats except on the used market.
I saw the picts of the white coupe and I like the Continental look that the vintage units have I might delete the emblems though. Maybe you should consider some earlier Recaro's that were in 911's or an early Recaro like I have in mine they work quite well.
Check these seats out that Todd found. And they sell adapters that allow you to mount then to any VW pan. Pretty cool.

The Classic with or without headrests looks pretty vintage for small $$$.
with those seats U may have to go to a smaller steering wheel
FYI, The scheel have an integrated seat belt in some models but they are not period correct.
I would think that you could buy something used and have them refinished even if they were used IM seats or 356 A or B or C seats
Hey I just found this link https://www.exoticcarseats.com @550 Phil I think you might find something that would be acceptable the Sport R is pretty nice IMO and the spyder model they say is used by many 356 owners.

I am kinda thinking that if I could afford used 356 seats, I would probably have a used steel 356 to go with them.

Phil...you probably already know this but your driving style and feel will be your best judge. We put over 50 K miles on an older IM with older Speedster seats with no complaint. Keen drivers we are...me about middle sized butt at 5'10 maybe and about 185 lbs and the Bride a little bigger in the beam. No complaints either side. We love to drive the car.
Now we have an IM Roadster and rather sitting IN the seats we feel we are sitting ON the seats. Befitting the look of the car of course, but in a hard corner I'd rather be in a Speedster seat. If I woke up some morning and my large Roadster seats were magically exchanged for Speedster seats I'd not complain.

I've seen your nice work on the modified Chrysler seats, Gordon. What I was referring to Is that you don't have "roadster seats " in the context of this thread. I think Phil's thread refers to "speedster" seats and "roadster" seats similar in looks and feel to those in original P type cars.

Used 356 seats are just too pricey for me. Henry’s seat would also be pretty pricey. Trying to keep this build below IM build price. Greg has assured me he can make my butt happy by padding some speedster seats. I think I know what I’m going to do. I know this sounds stupid but I think my coupe is going to be same colors as Spyder with Porsche metallic silver and dark tan interior leather. Boring I know. And outlaw the heck out of it. Just like the Emory above.

I completely understand it depends on what your vision is of that car and what you want to make it. Out of curiosity are you planning on air conditioning? I wish someone would come out and create a good Davis like fresh air system
I certainly would sound proof it out completely and the doors as well and if your doing subie will you go with subarugears 5sp or simply 3:44 final 4th
In any case a good back rest with head rest is sometimes needed for long distance but not for all people.
Phil I would love to know what your plans are for the build please post the build sheet.
I think that @Jack Crosby and I did something very similar to get to more comfortable tushes: He went to a different/thicker/more supportive bottom cushion which he got from Vintage and seemed to help him a lot on his cross-country treks.
I started out with 914 seats which were OK, but only good for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours at a stretch for your back and tush. I pulled the bottom cushion and replaced the foam pad with a piece slightly thicker, from a local upholstery place. He even cut the foam for me with a wire knife (that was cool to watch, too). Once I got it back under the vinyl I only had 1" to 1-1/2" of vinyl on each side to tuck under, but it was enough to glue it back onto the baseplate. The end result was more comfortable than before - Maybe good for 2 hours at a whack.
Plan on doing Suby stock 2.5 engine, 165 hp. My 200 hp spyder engine with bigger cams and high compression heads has all of its power at higher rpms. Going to need more of a stock engine with lower rpm torque to run the AC compressor. Going to use suby 5 speed tranny. Sound proofing in a coupe is a must. In my IM the 4 speed VW tranny was very noisy. Hoping the suby 5 speed will be quieter.
Haven't given up on the roadster seats yet but price is a concern. If I can do roadster seats instead of speedster seats for just another thousand that would likely be worth it. I will put the cash together and make a decision on whether or not to build by Nov 1.
If I build, I'll post the build.
The subie tranny is quieter than a type I but you could get fully new innards if you ask them for a price of course.

Hi Gordon---well the thing I did was to find a pair of 914 seats and recovered them with the original VS material. The 914 seat cushions were thicker and raised my rear end to better clear the VS seat buckets. The difference was night and day. I sent the rest of the seats to one of our members.
It will be a while before I'm able to sit in my Speedster again because today is day #9 after replacing my right knee and the left one gets done 12 weeks later. No opiods after day #3 but still have to wbe careful with the knee. That PT is some serious business too!
I bet that quite a few SOCers have gone through the same thing.

Jack-- if anybody can get through this without a hickup, it's you. We're all pulling for you!
Jack: One of my biking buddies had Knee #1 done this past January, and knee #2 done late February. Did the PT thing (and hated it) and finally got on an indoor trainer last April, progressing til he got back on his bicycle and has been increasing his mileage with each trip, several times each week. He's now back riding with us on Sunday mornings and keeps up over a 25 mile course of mixed flats and hills (and we have serious hills around here, too).
When he first rejoined us, he was very proud of the fact that he was no longer "bow legged" as he had been for most of his life - "Hey! Look how straight they are!"
Modern Medicine is pretty cool, for sure.
Jack: The important thing is, can you rest your banjo on that knee?

Henry makes speedster seats with a more substantial seat bottom, and they are very comfortable. We never get sore on our trips to the Outer Banks and back. Might be worth a look.
Yes. We all want to follow your build. The idea of a coupe is very intriguing...
Of course, all of Henry’s new seats will be electric(ally heated), too. :-)

Stan is right, if anybody can get through this, it will be you because you never give up. Speaking from personal experience, it won't be long before you'll be saying how glad you are for putting up with a little misery while going through rehab. My therapist was an ex-Marine DI who I hated at the time because he drove me hard. . . but it paid off. In other words, a bit of discomfort now will lead to years of pain free mobility in the future so stay with the program trooper.

Actually you sat in them for a day 2 years ago in North Carolina.
