There are points for each; the elephant's feet camp will say that if you're not careful with the other type the balls can roll during adjusting, making for more clearance (and noise) when it flips back to the flat part against the valve end. When buying the elephant's foot type, beware of the cheap ones; the real porsche ones cost 15 or $20 apiece, but are the only ones that last.

I dont like the elephant feet, seen tomany that were way to thin where it necks down for the ball at the end the foot swivels on, and the range of motion isant as good .I do like the ball swivel, havent had any issue with the ball fliping when adjusting, but most that are on the market nowdays need the ball serfaced some on some 400-600 grit wet then cleaned good befor using, some are kinda rough.I nolonger use them I have gone to the adjuster on the pushrod end type of rocker arm (1.33 ratio) but the ball type is a very good system and has been in use since the early 70's on millions of cars,I have seen 1 broken but that was owners fault.

sometimes when you cant get the feeler gauge(if you use one,I just set to snug zero with chromoly pushrods, but you need one with aluminum pushrods)but if you have trouble getting the blade under just back off the screw about 1/2 turn first, that should let you get it under  ok.then snug it up tighten the nut( witch will loosen the adjustment from pulling the adjuster), re adjust as needed.you may try adjusting them .001 or .002 tighter then when you tighten the nut it may be just right, you will have to see how your works out. I also use lash caps on all applications, they save parts from getting beat up.
