Anthony,

That's probably going to be a custom job. Given that there are relatively few of the little critters running around, there's no real aftermarket for those types of items like there is for Miata's etc.

I'd suggest you check with your local rodders, SCCA guys or on the Internet for fabricators in your area. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine also often has info and ads on fabricators.

Oh, and it seems like there was a thread on this site about 7-8 months ago about rollbars. You might be able to dredge that info up.

Hey Anthony!

If you're going on the track you will have to have one. Unless the track or group running have forgotten about safety and liability.....

I'm going to need to do the same. I did some checking around and Terry is 100% correct, it is definately a custom job. I have a connection here in Grand Rapids who has volunteered to properly design one for me. I also have a few options for fabrication over here too.

If you want maybe we can do 2 at once and get a break;)

I want one that is removeable because to do tehm "properly" it makes the passenger seat almost unuseable with the triagulation required.

Let me know,

Doug
I'll get going on it right away. Wait a minute, I don't have my car yet! How big of a hurry are you in Tony? I know I'm going to have to drive my New Beetle in the first couple of track days this year. The first one I'm doing this year is on April 10 at Gingerman. The next one after that will be Memorial Day at Grattan.I'd like to shoot for the Memorial Day event, should be a blast with "vintage" Spyder against vintage Alfa's!

How tight are you with the guys at Monks? Can you ask if they have any suggestions? I'd really like to get a second opinion on matters of "health and safelty";) Oh yeah, I'm also probably a little shy of any heavy modifications yet, seeing as they're still making the car!

I'll at least get my friend to start the conceptual design. I have tons of interior shots and shots of Spyders with roll bars for him to start thinking and planning with.

Have you seen any installed that you like? That may be another place to start.

Doug
I'm not in a hurry. Munk's is going to have my car until spring. Munk's Motors & I are members of the South Eastern Porche Club. They provide track inspections and tech sessions for the club. The club races at Waterford & Gingerman in the summer. They have recommended a Sparco Harness & a roll bar. Vintage, another company that makes 550 replicas, has thenm installed on their cars.

Tony
Glad you're not in a hurry. I like to take the time to do it right!
So I take it you're running your Spyder at the SEPC track days? Sounds interesting. I've never been to Waterford but I have seen some video of a couple of track days there, looks like a fun track. Let me know the dates and I'll definately check it out.

I asked Dean at Beck if they would install a roll bar in the car for me and he indicated that they really didn't want to take on the liability exposure. I can understand that.

Munks sounds like a great place. I'll have to check them out. Their advice on the harnesses is right on. I'm going to do the same, not yet decided on 4 or 5 points. Mounting style is pretty much set by the roll bar/anchor point location.

I was thinking of the same style bar as in pics 17 and 20. I'm not particularly fond of the angle on the passenger side of the one in the third picture. And I do believe that the forward brace is required by some race organizations.

Doug
