I filled my tank for the first time this past weekend and didn't screw the cap down tightly. It jared loose and now my car and the cover inside the trunk smells like gas.

Any ideas on how to get the odor out? Do I just open the trunk and let time take care of this. Or...is there a product that will help to remove or mask the gas smell.

The car is detailed an looking great. It's been an absolute blast...now if I can just figure out how to fill the darn thing with gas:}

Tim,
I did the same thing... If your trunk is carpeted you will probably have to remove the carpet and clean it to get the odor out. If not, open or fully remove the hood and let it air out. Wipe all the surfaces down with a cleaner/degreeser.

Masking agents I've used in order of strength (last is for the WORST odors).
1. Febreeze
2. Baking Soda
3. Grated apples (on a plate, close up the car)
4. Coffee grounds (on a plate, close up the car - only if you like
the smell of coffee)

In the fire service, we use kitty litter. Gets the smell, but gets the chemicals out, too. Doesn't stain, and comes up with a vacuum. Sprinkle liberally, let it sit for half an hour and vacuum. Should work like a champ.
Works for all kinds of hazardous materials and isn't reactive otherwise. You can probably even get rid of it by dropping it off to the local FD.
