I've been using the Carter rotary fuel pump from CB performance since I built my Speedster over 18 years ago but have been having trouble with it the last couple of years.   I am now on the third pump.  The first pump lasted abiut 16 years then it quit working about 2 years ago. That pump quit earlier this year so I installed another new pump in April this year just before Carlisle.  Well, that one is now dead too.

The filter that comes with the pump is installed in front of the pump so I don't think that is the problem.  I cut open the last bad pump and can't see any reason Ethanol or anything else affected it.  Has anyone else out there been having issues with this pump?

Bruce---same problem here.  I used a C.B. rotary for just 2 years and it died---I believe it was from the ethanol .  Now I use the Stabil ethanol blend ---the marine version---plus carry a spare with me.  Try the Hico Lane recommends.   Everyone should be adding Stabil to their

gas if it's ethanol contaminated.   Call Stabil and discuss it with a techie for some great info

about this approach.

Hey Bruce---I had the same experience when my C.P. pump was going out.  I coult tap it with a stick and it would start to run but I knew it was messed up.  I replaced it with the same type plus bought a spare to carry on trips.

I believe it was a famous engine builder who recommended the Mallory fuel pump #4070LP with the # 4309 regulator .  I checked and the price was $154.95.  If my B.B. rotary goes out again I'll get the Mallory and sell the C.B. one.

I called the tech line at Stabil and was told that the marine formula of anti-ethanol Stabil

is the same as the regular red container but it's concentrated so I can use less per tank.  I add 3/4 oz. to eight gallons of ethanol-contaminated gas.

Around Hot Springs there are two places to obtain ethanol-free gas so I use that when here but on the road all you get is the ethanol blend.

Isn't it wonderful---instead of drilling for oil in this country we use our food (corn) as fuel.

Food prices are skyrocketing and so is fuel.  I hope the tree huggers are happy.

Oops---sorry for the tangent Bruce.

What a pain in the butt this CB performance rotary pump is starting to sound like. Before Carlisle this year I pulled my newly installed Facet pump because I heard on the list how nice and quiet the rotary pumps are. I've put about 12,000 miles on it and it seems to run fine but now I've got to wonder. Has anyone contacted CB and asked the question about it's compatibility with ethanol ?
