Route options?

Aaron gave me the Idea. Since we are taking two days to travel to Carlisle, why not take a scenic route with less semi traliers. Anyone familiar with these roads? The link does not work correct. I did 60185 to Carlisle PA with no highways and no tolls. Thanks.

Wish I had such a choice. Charleston to Christiansburg is pretty much an interstate-only path if you want to make it in one day. Not a fun drive until north of I-40.

I can't get much out of the Google and Rand McNally on-line map overviews. I recommend using a Walmart Rand McNally Atlas. I don't think that any GPS has a route device such as "scenic". My has "fastest way" and "shortest way"

In Google, you click options and then avoid highways. Marty I just sent the Great Lakes caravan an email. Due to time constraints, I'm leaning towards direct route there and maybe indirect back. I like enjoying the journey, but will be focused on getting to Carlisle on time in one day. I could relax and enjoy the ride on the way home.

AAA is your best bet, you may be able to do this online ?

You can enter avoid interstates on a GPS but be well prepared to go over the river and through the woods... cu in Carlisle.

My wife has a Nuvi GPS and, thumbing through the menus we found "avoid toll" and "avoid highways" options. Buried, but they were there. If you want to be sure, do a Google search on your GPS brand name and model number. Geeks everywhere love posting tutorials on this shit.

What model NUVI?

Hers is a 310/360 or 370. Not sure which. Cheap and old, though, so probably a 310.

thanks but I'll have to pass on the Carlisle trip.. I did the google map thing just for kicks, If I drove straight through it would take me 2 days and 11 hours, and according to Google maps I would have to take 187 different roads to get there. Think I'll try Henry's upcoming Wine Country Tour.
