Before my VS I never had a swingaxle VW before. I recall replacing the rubber stops in my IRS equipped VW's. As I examined Bentley's manual from '66 to '69 I noticed that swingaxles are supposed to also have the rubber stops. Yesterday I crawled under my VS and noticed that my car doesn't have them. Of course it does have the plates where the stops hit. The book shows some sort of a bracket that is mounted on top of the spring plates (See Fig. 5 on Page 7 of the Trans & Rear Axle section)that my car doesn't have. How is this bracket attached to the spring plates? Would I be able to get new replacements to retrofit my car? Somehow I think that the car, even though disguised as a Porsche, should retain as much of the original design features of the Bug as possible to function properly. I guess factory engineers don't work in vain. Of course I'm talking about pan based VW cars. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Thanks guys! Yesterday JJ and I replaced the transaxle fluid in my car and he noticed that the spring plates are aftermarket units that have what looks like an adjsuting screw to set up the ride height; looks like a neat thing. Have any of you fiddled around with units such as these?
