A salvaged title would only be created if a totaled car was made road worthy again. I have no idea what pans are worth but it cannot be enough to make it worth the effort, besides you would have a salvaged title would be more likely to have to go through more hassle than it is worth. I bought my son a Honda Prelude in HS that was salvaged. I pulled the reports and found the car was stolen and declared lost for months which is how it got the title.

Hey Troy, No I am not looking at a red one.

i am hestitant on purchasing one with a salvage title because they are obviously an investment at this time as well.
did you have any problem with value with the salvage title ones?

I didn't have a problem with that one, but people are very suspicious of a salvage title and will think exactly like you are about buying it when the time comes to sell it.

I don't know if I'd pass on a salvage title because it matters how it got the salvage title. If a vehicle is damaged to an extent more than 75% of its value an insurance company will declare it as totaled. That totaled vehicle can be repaired and registered again in the State of California although it will carry with it a salvage title. In the case of a 19XX (insert date here) VW beetle that at the time of its damage was blue book valued at $1,000 a smashed fender could cause it to be totaled. Or an angry ex-girlfriend could have keyed the car causing it to be totaled because of the cost of a repaint, or if it wa stolen and not recovered until after the insurance company had already compensated the owner of said Beetle it would be salvaged. There are a myriad number of reasons for the salvage. You can repair it, have it inspected, and have it rebranded as "rebuilt" and not salvaged if you go through the proper channels with the DMV and the CHP.

Could be more hassle than its worth but only you can decide that.

If the car is titled as a salvage VW and is then re-registered a Special Construction will that clear the Salvage title in CA?

These vehicles may be built from a kit and may include a combination of new and used parts, especially if they are constructed using a junked vehicle that was previously dismantled. To register a specially constructed vehicle (including a kit commercial vehicle), you will need: A completed Application for Title or Registration (REG 343) form.

I’m new to this site but the speedster I bought (my first one) is a salvage title. It originally had a South Carolina title that was salvage as it had been hit on the driver front fender and needed a new front end as well. The owner before me, bought it and shipped it to Texas. It got a new Texas title that was salvage. I purchased it from him and my new title is salvage as well so I think you really never get rid of the label once you get it. On the plus side I didn’t have to pay much for the car (less than half what I see most running cars listed for) and it was pretty complete although it still needs lots of little things. Also, all the titles list the car as a 57 Porsche so that’s fun. I guess my point is that as long as you go in with your eyes open it could be a good deal for you if you get it at the right price. Let us know if you get it.
