I just finished installing my Santana Cup Holders.
Given the cost, it took a while to talk myself into them.
I think I got the first set with vertical orientation. All he had were prototypes when I placed the order.

They look GREAT Michael!!
That's too sweet, I never thought about mounting them in the doors.

I especially like the straps Michael. What was the source?
Hoss
The straps are seat belt material with metal grommets on each end for the screws to go through.
The metal bits on each end are from a Suzuki Samurai that I had chromed.
Very nice - like all the special touches you've put on your car.

I think I mentioned before, that I had the $5 boat cup-holders in my car. They worked okay, but the arms that hold the bottle tend to fold up if you don't center the bottle when you store it. This was a problem for me, because I'm typically taking a sip at a stop light and when the light turns, quickly trying to stow before taking off. After doing this a lot, I started looking for an alternative. This winter, Carey is moving my heat outlets to the rear bulkheads. This will leave the existing vents up front as dummies. I've decided to kill two birds with one stone and buy new cup holders that work better and install them over my old heater vent holes. This will actually be a slightly better location than where I currently have them, which is forward of the vents. I posted a bad link before, but this is a pdf link of the installation manual. I have these already and they are what I was looking for. http://www.griotsgarage.com/text/pdf/77830.pdf
The boat cupholders open in a three-step process; you have to open the cover/bottle support flip the arms up, and adjust the size.
This unit is one step. You open the cover/support and the spring-loaded surround pops up from the bottom. It's a more elaborate design and pretty cool.
You also have the option of mounting them on either a vertical or horizontal surface.
If someone is looking for a cheaper alternative than the Santanas and are okay with the surface mount, you might like these. They are $15 vs the $5 for the boat cupholders.
Those holders are cool. How much were they? Is there any way to mount them on the inside of the door to make them a little more hidden?
A friend of mine who has a shop in LA set me up with a very clean looking cup holder plus basket that sits over the center tunnel. I will post some pics later when I get a chance.
hbkmat, I'm not sure if you're referring to the Griot's ones that I posted or the Santanas. If you're talking about mine, they are $15 each as mentioned above. As far as mounting them to make them more hidden, it would require some fab work to cut a hole and add a backing plate. That would be far beyond my capabilities. I used to have a beetle wire basket with cup holders. One side was suitable for a bottle and the other side a can. I thought it would be a good idea, but it crowded me and my passengers and didn't hold stuff very well so it's going to be in the Carlisle raffle this year along with my boat cupholders. Since these can be installed horizontally, as well, if I weren't covering up holes, I would consider installing them on the floor beside the seat.
Thanks Tom but I was curious about Michaels setup and if you could bolt them up on the inside of the door so that you only see a slit in the vinyl.
Here are a few shots of the basket cup holder combo I have. If anyone is interested I can prob get a good deal on them.
hbkmat, I don't think you could mount them on the back side of the door panel. They probably wouldn't pull out enough to swing down.
You might be able to mount them on the front of the panel but behind the vinyl.
I had them black anodized so they would be more subtle than aluminum colored ones.
Search for Santana interiors to check the current prices. Prepare to be shocked.
I previously used the basket too and will also bring it to the raffle.
