David to address the white walls question..I'm not a big fan of them. They def' look classy. I'm leaning towards the usual semi mean look. Also mine will be a daily driver so white walls might not be that practical.

I'm also with you on the gray colors. I like them (dont love them) but like you said they look too much like primer to me. They are cool though. That is a real authentic look and much appreciated by many
Nolan i think your correct. I've always been an abarth fan and the new ones are cool. Question have any of you seen the new AUDI A-2 quattros? Euro only..sigh..but a real nice car. Now if only LOTUS would retro their great ELAN

Marty my buddy has a GHIA in pretty much that same shade of beige..sorta an off beige. He was shooting for a different shade but apparently the painter messed it up. Not a bad color and I wouldn't mind seeing it on a 356..maybe a coupe.

Personally I'm making a concerted effort to leave my beige interior obsession behind me. Beige leather ALWAYS looks good on german cars. Same goes for beige exteriors. Safe bet.

This time I'm goin out on a limb..take some chances. Everyone want's to be unique right? With that said a beige top is still in play. Black is out...and a navy roof just doesn't appeal to me. Finally a red interior and beige top works for me. That's where I'm at right now

I've also with certainty decided not to go with any shade of green. I've spent mucho time looking at every shade of green 356 on the net. I'm just not feeling it'. Teh only one I'd consider is Auratium Green.

That's why I've committed to a red interior. Only once before did I have a red interior (red 68 Mustang) and I really grew to love it.

I told Steve that and he's excited to do a red interior for a change.

On a positive note I had a long conversation with him yesterday was enlightening. Apparently he's bringing in more 'help'..like alot' more help. Just what I wanted to hear of course. He wouldn't quote me a new average 'build time' but the way he was talking the future is def' a bit brighter
they certainly look orange in the picture. yup I'm gonna need some samples. Just plain red..not burgandy. Just red. Do you have any more pics of your car's interior?

Hey I just read your thread..White Lightning. Very nice. Your car is BA'! I see you opted for the Legacy GT motor. I'm tempted. That's alotta' ponees' there Clint. Must go like Montezuma's Revenge.

Questions:

when you say 'upgraded' pre cat exaust you mean catless downpipe right?

What kind of cats do you have..hi flow?

What does that equal length header sound like? I specifically told steve I wanted unequal length pipes. I've had both on several subies/turbos and personally I prefer the unequal length...good ol' boxer sound...burble burble

Also I see you opted for heated seats. Do you live in a cold climate?
If performance is your concern, equal length headers in an EJ255 or 257 turbo are the way to go. Any mods, even mild ones, perform more effectively with equal length. With unequal length headers, cylinders 2 & 4 run hotter, creating more wear and shorter life, and the turbo receives hotter air. Cyl. 4 usually grenades first.

Cool air provides more potential energy, hence the use of inercoolers. Equal length headers eliminate the differences in cylinder temp air delivery. For a stock engine, it's no biggie. However, if you're pumping up, even a little (ECU, up/down pipe, exhaust), think about equal length. To my ear, the sound still works.
nice John..sorry I posted that but Steve seemed so proud of the job their doing on your car.

Jim your pretty much entirely 100% right. Dammit! I didn't want to hear that on a sunday morning..damnnn...

The problem is common subie folk like me are addicted to that rumble like a fat kid to cake. After 5 boosted motors the sound is like ear crack... It's a real hard addiction to kill. Lately I've gone to some ELH therapy. I'm starting to see the light.

I will say that all those years of ULH addiction I was in complete denial. When I got it right that funky exaust was sweet music and nobody was going to tell me different...blasphemy I would say!!!..walk the plank ricers!!!

Folks will tell you a stock 2.5 Legacy turbo (250 hp mildly tuned) it really doesn't matter..negligible they say.

After perusing many threads about it maybe it's high time I put down the pipe(s)...Every race application I've seen is EL..no questions asked.

I'll bet if I google it there's some UEH support groups out there. Probably in LA eh?

I have Perrin EL Headers, Catless Up-pipe, and Down-pipe w/ Cat... Here is where you can find out about the EL Headers.

http://www.perrinperformance.com/subaru/sti-08-10/exhaust/header-equal-length

The equal length design of the PERRIN header, produces smoother more balanced exhaust pulses flow from the head to the turbocharger giving you the best of two worlds. Quicker turbo response as well as more horsepower and torque throughout the entire RPM band. While designed to fit to the factory up-pipe, our header will mate with an OEM or aftermarket up-pipe, as well as any rotated turbo kits compatible with the factory header.

Because of it equal length design, the PERRIN header will alter the tone of your exhaust. The exhaust pulses from the engine are equalized and spread out producing a smoother, more refined sound. Some describe the sound to be EVO like similar to an inline four cylinder engine exhaust

Clint
Barne,

I have a Bali Blue JPS Coupe, or should I say my wife has a Bali Blue Coupe, we love that Color. We also have a Slate Grey 1968 Porsche 912, also like that.

I raced Fiat-Abarth's back in the 60's, would love to drive one of the new one's but the dealers have none that will allow it, they all want you to put a deposit on one and commit to buying and buy it without seeing or driving one.
Wow I got all excited hearing that UEH..but I was just excited to hear that EL. Says it all. Seemed to rev nicely..real free. Obviously better reving than the UEH.

Reminds of an old cam'd out ALFA..Rev all day and you could double clutch with the best of them. Thanks for that video. Made my morning. Your 356 must sound amazing. Please post of video of that..please oh please

Clint I don't think I'm going with PERRIN though. Through the years they don't really have a good rep'..Warranties,,quality..mass produced. Status quo on Subaru forums for ELH seems to be TOMEI, Maddad..I agree

Personally I'm a real big Maddad fan. Huge in the subie world. A real grass roots company. Their customer service is awesome..AND they're the only ELH with an EGT bung already mounted in the MANIFOLD. Exaust temps are like a head temps to ACVW's. Everyone should be monitoring these things if they're serious.

Don't get me wrong the PERRIN is a good piece of pipe..My favorite Subie tuner likes them. Of course he's a registered dealer...but I've seen a few dyno'd and they did quite well

but nothing like the sound of Maddad. It's low key at idle and cruising yet mean on boost...

Of course that's a matter of preference. The PERRIN quality is really the issue for me. I spent nearly a decade on Club WRX, IWSTi and NASIOC listening to peeps whine about PERRIN Products. Also it's such a big company and you can get lost in the shuffle if you have an issue

When it comes to subie turbos you need to also know about GRIMMSPEED. They are the P/P kings. They're all about FLOW..and probably the #1 outfit for customer service. If I chose to go boosted like you my set up would be completely done by GRIMMSPEED..From the intake to the tailpipe. Just my opinion as usual

Right now I'm playing the MPG game. Everything on the SAS is going to as light as possible. From the Willwood brakes/discs, Forged stocker wheels, Braille lightweight battery etc. My goal is a 200 NA ponies and a real light car...With decent headwind, a good body lean', milk crates for seat and my hat turned backwards 45 mpg is possible
chuck I love grey carpet. perfect combo.

I am a big Meissen Blue fan...That color reminds me of alot of the bugs of my early vw days. I had a super beetle that color..and a 67'

Yeah black interior your asking for it. My beemer has black leather and it shows everything. Every crack and crumb

Gary what license plate is on the front of your car? It's a nice too sharp!
Now here's a nice BRG I could live with. This is the first one I've seen in the perfect shade of British Racing Green and I must say I'm def' feelin it. Still it's got a brown interior. NICE AS HELL but..that's not how I'm gonna roll this time. I really need to break my pattern of brown/beige interior abuse once and for all.

I had a Dodge Dart Sport that color...with a white stripe. It might have been a 72..or 74. but I liked the color. Not too mettalicy. A real tough stock paint I recall. No 343 though..hehe just a good ol' slant sixer'

Funny story. I bought it in '82..in Kona for a surf beater'. Came stock with a Gecko living on the rear deck. That damn lizard stayed with the car for quite awhile. Even when I shipped it from The Big Island to Maui. Little bug eater pulled his weight
