I read somewhere that something like 90% of all lawsuits in the world are in the USA. Look at some of those foreign shows like mxc- if you get hurt, it's your own damn fault.
The old "Sh#T Happens" bumper sticker needs to make a come back.
SAS needs to come clean with Kris - too many of us know of CMC's demise. Dispite putting hundreds of cars out there they are still criticized for nefarious business practices. CMC didn't even have an established internet to contend with - once the internet flames starts it quickly becomes uncontrollable.

just curious if any of the people who have not gotten their SAS's built in a timely manner had anything written in the contract regarding what would happen in the event that the predicted build time more than doubled?
The SAS check I received last week did not clear due to a "mistake by their bank". However, SAS immediately had their bank issue a wire transfer directly to our bank account and, finally, the story is over. Anyone who would like my "opinion" on the "facts" of my experience with SAS can e-mail me. They are certainly different than any organization I have ever done business with in my life.
Doug, Hope that your less than pleasant experience doesn't keep you from acquiring a speedster from one of the reputable Makers listed herein. ~Alan
I'll second that. The cars are fun and the gatherings even more so.
So Doug, on the 5th of August at 8:01am you posted that your position in the SAS queue was available and that you requested a refund of your monies; then 57 minutes later you say your refund was going to be "in the mail". A week later you state "...not clear due to a 'mistake by their bank'. However, SAS immediately had their bank issue a wire transfer directly to our bank account and, finally, the story is over."
So it took about a week-and-a-half to have your cash in hand? Doesn't seem too unscrupulous to me. Knowing that the build time was lengthy, it would seem you knew the game plan up front. I glad it worked out so well for you.
As "kit cars" go I think a mid-engine Subaru-powered car (I particularly like the roadster) would be quite a lot a performer. It's too bad that SAS doesn't configure a "roller" to ship. There are a lot of people that could complete the drive-train. Anyway I reiterate that you seemed to treated quite fairly. Interesting (unusual?) "thread" from your 1st post to your last post.

Scott, Are you aware of the WHOLE story and sequence of events that Doug endured? Or are you simply commenting as many are with the details provided in this post only? just curious.
Jane, and others...The point of this thread is clear, do you take the chance or don't you...
Knowing everything that you know from this thread, and this I'm certain is only part of the story, most of which we will never know...
Do you take the chance or don't you.....well do ya?

I AGREE 100 PERCENT. ITS NOT ABOUT BASHING THE PRODUCT, NOT ONE PERSON HAS SAID ANYTHING NEGATIVE REGARDING THEIR CARS, ITS SIMPLY A PERSONAL CHOICE THAT GOES TO ONES PRIORITIES AS WELL THE IMPORTANCE OR ACTUALLY HOW MUCH THEY WANT TO RISK THE POSSIBILITY OF POTENTIALLY WAITING A LONG TIME AS CLEARLY EVIDENCED IN ALL PAST BUILDS.
I THINK JANE IS RELATED TO GERD SOMEHOW OR THEY USE THE SAME KEYBOARD
IS THERE ANYONE WHO DISAGREES THAT THERE IS THE RISK OF WAITING A LOOOONG TIME?
Not to mention the possibility of losing your down payment, as some have...

Bob,
I can assure you I am not related to Jane nor do we share the same keyboard. :)

Lucky for Jane! 8-}
Once $ is paid without an immediate delivery of service or product, the risk expands exponentially. Still, some have felt that the product was worth the wait. Too long for me. Bob
Jane, if you haven't figured out the Gerd connection, it is the use of all caps in your posts.

Jane, I'm confused. Are you buying an SAS?
Cory, I don't know Jane, but apparently she is not an old coot like some of us, who wonder if we'll even be alive in two or three years.
She wants a roadster, but is not willing to spend 80K to get one...
Why would Henry build a car for say 30-40K when he has dopey guys willing to pay 60-80K for a car.....simple economics....
Vintage, JPS, Thunder Ranch build Speedsters not Roadsters....I think.
Someone find Jane a used Roadster.....

Jane, Did you not order a water-cooled IM back in 2006? I seem to recall seeing pictures of the car in Sep 2009 on this forum. Whatever happened to that car? Are you not in a position to answer your own question about the risk of a long wait?
Others on this forum have waited a long time for cars other than SAS cars. It seems like the more exotic the build the longer the wait.

I'm just curious about the twists in that road, I guess. She went from an apple to an orange and is now eyeballing a pear.
Thanks MIchael I didn't catch the caps. And Corey, I was indeed intending on putting a deposit on a SAS cabrio but am now rethinking the idea as I can respect maybe why it takes so long I'm frankly not sure I'm willing want to wait. I realize that others have waited and are completely happy and don't question that I too would be, BUT I don't I'm prepared to wait.

Jane, there is a whole grunch of really nice cars for sale right now.
No muss, no fuss. And it appears to be a buyer's market.
Why not get a simple starter car (I remember you said you recently sold an A coupe) to fairly compare replicas to the feel of the steel ones, then formulate your preferences from there?
They can be had for easy money, and you're not going to have to wait.
Lots of happy IM owners, several happy SAS owners -- and a ton of CMC, VS and Beck owners out there, too. I'm sure I'm missing several other companies' worth of owners.
Buying a used one right now is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Cory, perhaps you didn't read my post.....Jane wants a Roadster, not a speedster...comprende (sp)
maybe she likes roll-up windows and a heater that works or A/C, like some of the other pussies on this site...

Not sure he'll be able to make that particular mental connection, Vince. Remember, his car doesn't have a top, and barely has a windshield.
Just proves what I said...He's all man.....
Jane, not so much...

Thanks, Vince.
Seriously -- she apparently didn't follow through on the IM, for whatever reason -- and waiting until SAS' list gets short enough to predict an outcome ... why not go and get a Speedster from whomever while she waits?
When she wants to pull the trigger on the higher-dollar car, she'll have a basis of comparison to be specific on what she wants to add to it.
I get the Roadster/Speedster differences, but if she lives in a decent enough climate to make driving it in rain a requirement, she can still get into a (fairly weather resistant) Beck for not nearly the cash outlay.
There are consignment cars available, if memory serves.
Jane, sorry for the third-person. I really have no business sticking my nose into this, but it just doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.
Lane, you're right. You're absolutely right. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Jane - If you want a roadster with roll up windows, AC, weather sealing top, etc., and you don't want to take any big risks, wait a long time, or spend a fortune, there are several nice pre-owned IM roadsters out there. As Cory said, it's a buyers' market right now.

VINCE WHO U CALLING A PUSSY
Well, if roadster owners are pussies, then Coupe owners must be a few rungs lower than that...I'm just saying...
To be politically correct its "Wuss" - wusses or wussies
Sounds like Miata time (ok now MX5 whatever that is).

This thread was started with the intent to expose the bad business practices of SAS. Any future buyer dealing with them should demand that a firm delivery date be put in writing with specified penalities for each day, month, or year the final delivery is deliquent. Otherwise, a buyer can end up waiting 3+ years for a car with no recourse or escape mechanism. Potential customers are routinely told that delivery will be 9 to 12 months. In actuality, delivery takes 36 to 42 months (sometimes longer). SAS will not tell potential customers this. But, somebody should - and as a result of my experience I believe that I am qualified to comment. Last year they delivered, I believe, two vehicles. That is extremely low production and if there are 10 customers on the list ahead of you - well, you do the math. These are my "opinions" based on my "facts" doing business with them. On the one hand, they made a good product. On the other hand, they made very few of them. Accordingly, delivery takes forever. I believe that people should be aware of this (and now have to through the nightmare I went through)
