I bought a 2008 SAS Speedster with the 2.5 Subaru engine. I've had the car for 9 months now, but don't seem to be able to get very good gas milage in the city. I can't seem to keep off the gas when running around town, but I should get atleast 20 miles to the gallon. Any suggestions?

Check out the map settings on the ECU. Subies tend to run a little rich, but 20mpg seems a bit low.
Very nice looking Speedster. Did you buy it from Paul Robbins in Sacramento? I understand that he sold it a while back. You should join us on the SAS owners website. Clint Owings runs the site and we would be glad to have you join us.

ps. Your mileage does seem a little low unless you are really hammering it in the city.
Hoss;
I did buy the speedy from Paul Robins. Have you had your speedy serviced by a Subaru mechanic?
My (now deceased) high mileage 1996 2.5L Subaru Outback automatic got only 19-24 MPG.
get it checked out if it's good to go then get your foot retrained.let me know how the foot training go's.
The Red Man has never seen a Subaru mechanic. Anything that has been done to it has been by Steve or me.
The problem with these things is they're so much fun! Foot retraining may be harder than you think, and you may just have to accept it as the price paid...
like the $120 to the ohio state troopers last week? Isee says the polar bear.
So sometimes the cost is more than just fuel consumption....
About a Month ago my wife got a new Subaru Outback with a 2.5L non-turbo engine. So far, we have not been on any lengthy trips, but around town and down to Providence RI we're consistently getting 28-32mpg on each tank. The car is a sort-of station wagon/rear hatch affair, full time 4-wheel drive and has GOT to weigh a lot more than a Speedster. That engine has way more torque than I thought it would have and would easily keep up with Pearl and her 2,110.
I,m not aquainted with the car.... If it is running a standard VW transaxel gear set, I could see the low milage figures....
The Outback wagon weighs about as much as two fiberglass Speedsters. Mileage with the Outback should be in no way comparable to the mileage you could get in a Speedster with that engine, even revving it too high with the VW transaxle.
Eds gonna grip on a Soob..
