Hi, Jim, where is your coupe now? Waiting 4 or 5 years is extreme for anything, especially for an adult toy car. Are you pleased with the build quality (if/when the coupe is running)?
Hi Dan,
The car is at my son's house in Santa Cruz, CA. I live and work overseas, but plan to retire in the next year or so. I have only spent a couple of days with the car, so I don't have much personal experience yet with the car. I have contacted a true talent on this board who will help me diagnose and repair any faults. I think the major components are solid, but the small details will likely need sorting out. I will probably be in California in 2 or 3 months, and will report on my findings, fixes, frustrations, etc.
Jim, I'm thinking of taking a mid-winter break to someplace warm like Florida, but it could also be California... and impose on Ignacio's hospitality. Hoist a couple with Vinny. Pay Jowdy a visit. See what Kevin Zagar's up to. But I could be persuaded to combine work with pleasure!
If you have your son in Santa Cruz turn over the keys to the coupe for a couple of weeks I'd be willing to shake it out and give you a detailed synopsis on what needs sorting.
That's exactly what Steve Lawing said. Only he said he'd fix what was wrong!
Yea, but Steve has fish in the pan to fry.
I don't...I'm just an unbiased note taking observer / driver
Does the coupe have a sunroof?
That would certainly make my observing & driving more pleasant.

Nice try Carl, but even I can see through this one.. Oh, and btw, if Jim gives you the car, you'll need someone in the shotgun seat...strictly for observational purposes, you understand...I'm sure I could swing a couple of days to "help out".
Your buddy Al
Jim, I suspect you're skeptical of receiving accurate and reliable feedback from me...and you'd be right. But Al's got fine-honed cracker-jack diagnostic skills, which would take that burden off my shoulders so I could concentrate on keeping all four wheels on the pavement.

I had a '57 Bug that had the accordian fold back near full sunroof. Amazingly it didn't leak a drop. There were places that sold kits to add them. That type sun roof would be perfect. Seems the roof curve is pretty much same too.

We'd make a good team, Carl!! I somehow don't think Jim's gonna give us the car, though. We could have accomplished so much...
I know there's a SATIRE button somewhere on this keyboard. Let's see . . .

I almost had jps install that on my coupe
Al and Carl, testing Jim's coupe:
If any of you clowns... er guys... make it over to Santa Cruz, drop me a line. I'm just on the other side of the hill.
