well said IAM-RAY!
I loved my JPS, I think most replicas are love hate relationships. Even when I was deciding which replica to buy, many from the board told me to buy a Miata or a Boxster, if I wanted a problem free driver.
Your not wrong there... it is a mix of 1950's and new car tech with the requirements of a backyard mechanic, & / or a short leach on a good mechanic or both
Oh I forgot to add the constant barrage from your dearly beloved who thinks your crazy
I've got a J.P.S. Coupe and a Speedster and I couldn't be happier with them. Once you get the electrical issues sorted out, which I did last week, I don't think there's a better build out there. I've owned Beck and Vintage Speedsters and they're both great, but my J.P.S. Suby-powered cars are my favorites.
I have a JPS coupe that I had built about 6 years ago with 12,000 trouble free miles. The only shake down that I did was to add some castor, adjust the shifter and let some air out of the tires. All based on advice I got from members in here.
I really like it, it is a joy to drive and the paint and fit and finish are excellent including the interior. It will be in my estate as I have no intention of ever selling it.
Mine is the standard model with a 1776 four. It is the only replica 356 I have ever seen much less driven so I have no basis for comparison. My car took about a year to be built and I really had no trouble with JPS....John returned my calls and emails.
Having said that, others have had trouble getting their cars including a neighbor of mine who has been promised a car for more than a year.
Given the record of replica owners going out of business , my lawyer says I am crazy to have one built. It is a worry till you actually get the car.
I would have absolutely no problem with recommending that you buy a existing car with a clear title that you can inspect and test drive.
