Jeff, between your and Steve's posts, there is 90% of the volume of SAW posts. There are 1.5 cars on the road. Poll them. John H is happy, so there is your poll.

What is your 356 Replica experience, anyway?

On another thread you spoke of the volume of experience leaning towards a SAW. Do you know who or what the volume of expeience is on this site? Most gave up posting long ago.

You may want a SAW.... and that's cool. But your rookie-ashed cheerleading gives me a massive headache. If you are seriopus about buying, then chuck up the coin for a donation... if not, there's always an AOL Chat Room.

I love my car & drive it more in a month than you will a year. and how dare you mention meds. Only friends have that right. You are not a friend. That may change, or it may not.

Negative? I am one of at least several dozen 3-4 year members that have all but given up on posting here. Those who have met me will tell you I am a very positive and life loving person. I also love Speedster replicas of all types. But I have little tolerance for some of the crap that has passed as a forum lately.

I'll say it again. Jeff, chump up the change or quit posting like you know jack about jack.

John, my meds are just fine.............

Poll This.

Jim, PLEASE, I did not mean anything personal with the meds remark. You are an Okie I'm a Texan, but I did not mean to start a range war.

I will call on the mileage--not withstanding your drive home. My VS is out most every day. Sometimes only for a few hours in the morning--it's the Florida rain every day season--2" yesterday.

I got the feeling from some post of yours you might have flown for a living? Years with TWA myself. jkl
I just wanted to branch off from Luigi's comment regarding SAW build times.

I'm curious about feedback from people who have had Specialty Autoworks built cars for them, 356's or otherwise. It sounds like Steve's car is a bit behind the original timeline (but to be fair he freely admits that all his customization and coordination with 3rd party vendors has caused most of this).

Also, Luigi mentioned he was waiting a year for a car, that surprised me... Luigi can you tell us more?

Based on the feedback I've read, it sounds like the delays are due simply to the volume of work SAW has on its books, which is principally a good thing. Says a lot about their reuptation and skill.

That being said, they are definitely getting more and more interest from the SOC and I think order volume will be ramping over the next few months. Given that, what is that likely to do to timelines? As they are the only dealer for this great product they have developed, what happens when they get busy with a few orders for this, or any of their other unique cars?

I wonder if they are going to consider licensing their design to anyone else (and given the history of copycats in the industry I wonder if thats a good or a bad thing?)

I believe this thread started asking about SAW production times. John is correct on the number of SAW Suby Speedsters out there. Steve at SAW does not have a large staff and likely will never have large production figures. On the other hand he seems to be taking actions to streamline his production and is now focusing on the Suby Speedsters product line. There are two other Speedsters (one of which is Luigi
The prototype is in Knoxville (silver). There is one in TN (red) and one in MA (silver flared)(both pictured on the SAW website). There are four more being assembled (two Speedsters, a Cabriolet and a Coupe). I'm sure there are other commissions. Most of these cars have been outfitted with numerous accessories and are far from Spartan. They are custom built cars in the truest sense. Assembly is time consuming but the price seems reasonable.
Gentlemen: My speedster was ordered at the end of june 2004. It was a basic no frills speedster. What ever caused delays had nothing to do with me. Unfortunately, I have lost complete interest in owning that car, have requested that my contract be cancelled, and my money returned. Fortunately for me Steve is willing to satisfy my desire. So that means that someone out there who has the money, and wants a car fast might want to investigate with SAW. Thanks for hearing me & Good luck to all.
Aw....Shoot!, Luigi.....you probably would have enjoyed it a lot. Too bad.

Unfortunately, SAW's completion rate on Speedsters has not been especially crisp, as they seem to have been focused on other matters that probably provide a higher rate of return.

Once the car is produced, it seems (at least from John Hallstrand's example) to be a top quality automobile, with many luxury features for the price. The hard part is the (seemingly open ended) wait for completion, which hasen't given many people on here a high comfort level with SAW.

Just my dos centavos........gn
I am very lucky and absolutely not an example of a build from scratch stepping into someone else's shoes. I believe that SAW has been gearing up so to say. From what I have heard from John as in Hoss he is delighted with the quality of his car. Steve Obrien has been down there and has got every option possible to basicaly create a true to form replica. In truth I have learned from John "Hoss and Steve going along.
Now to the point. I think from the pictures I have been sent there are a number of the Subytubs in different stages of completion. Steve's and mine are about out of the barn. Hoss has been out of the barn for quite some time. Steve of SAW has what I believe to be a well thought out product with a number of significant differences to that what is offered currently in the market.
He has been very responsive to me (which is the only example I can speak to and if the car fulfills my high expectations you all will be the first to know it. I think and hope the SAW product will be unique and superior value for money. Truthfully for what you get (after shopping) it seems like a bargin to me and the technology offered was a step up above all the other products.
Keep in mind all this insight is from a true green horn who has not driven the car yet and bought one sight unseen. SO WITH A GRAIN OF SALT PLEASE.
