It's the same everywhere.
On the board that I administer www.spyderclub.com some members go out of there way to get overly concerned with one particular manufacturer of Spyders.
If someone posts a negative or semi-negative remark about that vendor, a bunch of people feel it's their "duty" to chime in.
If he's involved with a ponzi scheme, that could land him back in the big house.
If youall remember the question was, can you recommend this builder,
Well...can you?
Well...can you?
Can you recommend the buyer?
BTW, here's a couple of outputs from the "ponzi" scheme. I don't have the pictures of the ones that came out after these.

I think you guys need to use Webster's for the correct definition of Ponzie Scheme, close but no cigar.
Which brings me back to my last post. Seems to me that if you're not directly involved, you shouldn't go around posting your speculation/opinion Just my 2 cents

Thanks Larry, some people expect a two man operation that's been in business for 30 years to pump out as many cars as the other builders. They also think SAS should go out and buy salvageable Subaru's and have them shipped to him at his cost, purchase leathers, hardware and other parts needed to construct a custom car without having a buyer committing to a purchase.
Here's a close up of mine with a new engine cover done in leather. The Florida sun faded the original German square weave carpet, oh and the sun visors I installed myself.

nolan where did u get the sunvisors?
Nolan, you seem to be taking this way to serious....I didn't get all of that from this thread....
As originally posted would you recommend this vendor based on everything you know...
the answer is simple...Not unless you want to wait a few years to get a car... and is your deposit being used to buy parts for another car that's being built right now...And oh, he has been in trouble with the law in the past...
His workmanship may be obvious once you see one up close, but do the other issues bother you..
for me there are issues with this builder...

Gerd, I got them from Klasse 356 but they went up in price, nearly $100 more. Look in Stoddard's they have a pair for $246, the price I paid Klasse, plus Stoddard's has a mirror in the passenger's side. If you have a Speedster and not a coupe or cabriolet I doubt if they work for you.
Larry, Nolan-
I can agree with you, up to a point- but we HAD an unhappy guy with money on the line waiting FOUR YEARS for his car (remember, he lost his place in line because he wasn't 100% happy) who weighed in as a counterweight to the sunshine. It is not "piling on" for him to post, or for the rest of us to question why it takes years to build a car- hand-built or not, two man operation or not.
Nolan likes his car, and was happy to wait a really, really long time for it. I'm glad for him. He is right in asserting that his satisfaction with the arrangement is a matter between he and Steve Lawing- but the transaction didn't take place in a vacuum, and the rest of us are bound to have an opinion about the details for other buyers, just as everybody feels free to offer an opinion on any other builder.
Some of the opinions offered on this site are reasonable, some are subjective, and others are just idiotic. The subjective opinions are questions of value and quality (what I consider valuable might not be subjectively worthwhile to somebody else, what I consider work of acceptable quality might be considered shoddy by somebody else). However, questions about the voracity and viability of a builder are not subjective- it's either reasonable or idiotic. Nolan thinks this falls in the "idiotic" category, but there's at least one depositor who seems to have a point.
It's against the law to yell, "FIRE" in a crowded theater- but only if there isn't a fire. It's heroism if there is an actual blaze. Some folks are seeing smoke. Maybe it's nothing, but it certainly warrants some caution before falling asleep in your chair.

Perhaps Stan and Vince are right (Vince right?) about the postings. I've read a lot of barbs about other builders but it's not in me to comment for or against a builder or quality of his car without being personally involved. I did investigate Steve and SAW/SAS when the article was first aired. I call and spoke with The Tennessee State Attorney's Office, Knoxville County District Attorney's Office as well as Knoxville Court Clerk. I was pleasantly surprised with the information I received and dismissed the newspaper article as likening it to the Bat Boy articles in the National Enquirer. As for the waiting period, I admit it is hard to take, but knowing first hand what it takes to build such a car, which differ in each build due to Subaru improvements, I accepted it. Would I do it again, yes, if I could afford it, do I recommend one to another buyer, no. Why wouldn't I recommend it you ask? Just read your own posts, if someone is not patient enough to have a custom made "modern" replica built then I hardily recommend them to look elsewhere. There are plenty of new used 356's listed every day from just about every maker under the sun, hell, there even was a SAS for sale once on eBay.
Vince: You hereby have my permission to kick my hairy ass if I respond to any more pots shots at SAS.

Late 90's and up Miata visors fold in half long ways and with some ingenuity, I'm sure a clamp type mount could be fabricated to go over the speedster windshield frame.
I would tackle this but I am in the midst of a few hundred Hail Mary's to rid myself of my sins ~

How do the visors attach?
Hey, I drive a mid 90s Miata....I'll have to look.

The man asked, we answered. Case closed. Incredibly, I think Vince has got the issues well sorted. Never thought I'd live to say that . . .
