between the SAW cabrio and the BECK S90, which would you pick, I have ruled out other manufactures for one reaosn or another and narrowed it down to these tow, esp since Beck is reproducing the S90 cabrio. Being in PA I lean towards SAW due to it being watercooled (subaru engine), and actually the price is slightly under Becks $50K uncluding all the options I would like from SAW, BUT I have yet to decide knowing that the Beck is basically a reproduction of Enveno which was superb and literally sold at porsche dealerships some years ago.

I'm not going into which is a better car, each has it's finer points. I've had my SAS Cabrio going on 2 yrs now, it seems like yesterday when I got it. No problems with the car save for one loose wire connection which was repaired within a couple of hours after telling Steve the symptoms I was having. Would I sell mine, never! My daughter already has her hooks in it when I'm too feeble to run with the big dogs. My only advise for any prospect buyers, be patient, very patient. The average delivery time is 2 to 3 years from signing the contract. For some this gives them time to save for the graduated payments, a deposit at signing, payment when body shell goes to the paint shop, payment when car is being assembled and final payment upon delivery. I got a non-penalty CD from Bank of America and drew out as I needed, made $3000 in interest, boy those were the good old days. SAS produced only 3 to 4 cars a year, the quality and safety mechanics are outstanding with newer cars being equipped with POWER brakes and power windows for Speedsters, each car seems to be more advanced than the last one due to the newer Subarus being used. Beck produces outstanding cars as well and customer support as is support from SAS is hard to match. When comparing builders it's like comparing wine, what ever suits your palate.

I like both. I'm partial to the S90 because I like the way they source original bits from dead P-cars. Sounds like a petty reason, maybe, but I think the details on a car that hard to reproduce would make it more appealing to me.
I have seen Hoss' SAW, and I really, really like it, too.
Both companies stand by their products.
Whichever way you go, you won't be disappointed. I wish I was in your shoes!
The Beck S90 Cab is my dream car. No offense, but the SAW cars aren't close enough to a 356 for my taste. They don't look like one, they don't drive like one. They are neat cars, but I want a car that is as close to an original 356 in looks, sound and smell as a real one, just with out the rust and parts availability. I saw a Beck Cab at Carlisle last May and almost got out my check book. I also like 356 "C" cars alot, as I have owned a coupe and a Cab.
just curious why you don't think the SAW looks like a 356 and is it because of the subaru drivetrain that you don't feel like they drive like one, I like your input as I have never driven either, but I love the idea of a liquid cooled roadster as I live in Pa, and the price of the beck s90 in a liquid cooled in really getting up there, SAW seems like a lot for the money, considering with two upgrades of leather and A/C it would barely hit the $35K mark. I unfortunatly have to consider this as well in making my choice.
Jane,

The SAW is a great ride as I can attest from my test drive in 2007 before deciding on an IM. It does have that mid engine feel peculiar to boxsters and the like. Some like it, some don't. HTe non turbo power plant was plenty strong and more torquey than my 1.8t in the water cooled IM I ultimately went with.

Jane, you asked for opinions. Mine is skewed to my reasons for having a replica of a 356 Porsche. I owned a 356C Coupe and Cab during my youth, and have been a aircooled guy through busses, Things, and Type 1's. 912 Targa and 2 914's. I like the sound of a fan whirring behind my head, the carbs opening, the exhaust not of a flat 4 luftboxer. I also prefer as original look for MY car as my wallet will withstand. I also am a fair weather driver. I am blessed to live in a warm, dry climate. I would not even consider owning the cars that I own in the FLorida or Michigan, my previous homes. But you have different things to consider. My opinion is that both cars are great for different reasons. I have an IM Roadster that I enjoy and feel is a well made, fun car. I would trade it for a Beck S90 Cab in the blink of an eye. It is the $$25000.00 difference in price that is keeping me from trading up! God luck with your search.
