Hello everyone
I emailed Steve at SAW twice and didnt get a response. I know they make good speedsters but their turn around time is rumored to be a bit long. (I keep wondering why they dont outsource more or streamline since demand for their cars seem so high) Or is it because the Subaru version is still new they havent geared up for quicker production?

On the other hand from what I have read the turn around time for a Beck is pretty quick and they are willing to customize the car to your liking. (roll up windows and an automatic trans are whats needed for me)FYI: before you bash me for the auto I have had a left leg problem since childbirth.

Should I just wait 3 or 4 more months for the Beck to come out with the Mini cooper mid engine speedster? Or keep trying SAW? I really prefer the SAW Subaru motor over the Beck mini/BMW one just due to parts and servicing alone, plus I think the SAW has metal braces in the door that Beck may not. But I dont know if I want to wait 1.5 to 2 years for a car.

Does anyone have an update on the Beck mini/BMW motor watercooled project? Should I just wait or will SAW production gear up faster once they get more of their Subaru versions out? Any ideas?

SAW will likely require a year or two with the current backlog. The more exotic you want the car, the more time it is likely to take. While the SAW process is beginning to move quicker, rapid completion is not likely to come anytime soon. If you can wait a couple of years then you need to get in the queue. If not, then you should seek another alternative. I cannot speak to the Beck situation.
Shawn,

I just sent as reply to your e-mail, along with some additional photos.

As Lane mentioned, we have verbal commitments on the first 10-12 units. Our plans are to build approx. 16 of them this year.
We will not be accepting deposits until we have finished the production tooling, which is still about a month or so away from completion. At this point, the current names will get 1st shot at the first 8 cars. Then we'll do the same for the 2nd production run. We may do a 3rd if time allows, but with all of the other projects in the works I cannot say for sure that this 3rd run will happen for 2007.

If anyone has any specific questions, you are welcome to post them here, or e-mail me directly.

Carey
Yes, the rear panel removes for access to the top of the motor, your fluids, plugs, etc...
Best I can describe it, is that it reminds me of my old Boxster, except it is MUCH easiuer to get at the top of the motor than the Boxster was.

The panel pictured is bolted in place, however I think Dzus type fasteners will be a much better solution.
Thanks Carey
I was asking more about how to get to the bottom half of the motor. To do things like a timing belt change or something similar. Is that area behind the seats (rear firewall I guess) remove-able?

Also do you offer roll up windows as an option on the speedster?

Thanks
Shawn C.
