The 60% shifter would not reduce the throw to 3rd by 20% of the 40% throw. Off hand, I would say it would reduce it 33%.
I originally mentioned this reduction because the owner of the 40% shifter said he didn't think he needed the 60% version, but then complained about the long throw to 3rd. The 60% shifter might have resolved this for him.

Nah, but it woulda made it a leeeettle shorter. The differences in angle between the reverse, 1-2, and 3-4 rows are so slight as to be difficult to discern already, so I'll keep it as is. The best solution would be to move the shifter back a couple of inches, but that would conflict with the e-brake, which, if moved, would conflict with the heater knob, etc. Overall it's a very minor thing, and I'm quite happy with what I have.

Might be easier to put him on a Rack and simply stretch out his right arm a few inches.......
