Just won this on Ebay:

although it's not really a win, so much as a draw or loss, considering the condition.

But, since it's going on this:

just as it is, wonderful rust and all, I guess that it couldn't really be more perfect ! ! !

Well at least its up on wheels. I've seem members of the 356 R restore much! worse.

The good news is parts and sheetmetal for the B is still very avalible. You need a copy of The Directory 3rd edition. Mail to Driven by Design 225 crossroads Blvd,PMB 356, Carmel, CA. 9323. tell them your year and model and they can send you a supplier kit

I suspect you can and will restore this car, and this will improve your chances of sucess
YUP ! !

I've had a little practice with my Ghia:

Thought that it's time to work some magic on my 356 SC.

"Damn commies! Oh wait, I work for the US Government ..."

Lane, I have a message here for you.
"Senator McCarthy's ghost called for you this morning, and would appreciate a call back. If not, he'll contact you some other time."
Does that mean anything in particular?
He called me first, but I gave him your number. I didn't think you'd mind.
TC, I'm curious. Do you ever finish a project? You know, painted, interior, etc.. Or are your cars constantly evolving? The Ghia does look pretty cool in it's rusted state.
There's a guy located around Clear Lake by the name of Dink Farmer.
He's a porsche guy who does some mighty fine restorations. But he's also into building Frankensteins as well. Like grafting the front half of a 911 onto the rear half of a 356. Or taking a 356 and chopping it and making it 12" wider. The end result looks something like a 49 Merc.
Your photos remind me a lot of Dink's place. A lot of rusted shells laying around waiting for Igor to bring them into the lab.
I've bought a lot of finished rides, but only fully restored one myself, the TR6. Came out PERFECT, but I lost interest pretty quickly and sold it at the end of that Summer. Now, I think of the Ghia AS finished, The 356 will be shortly. I'm not, at all, concerned with the shell, I like that it keeps changing as the rust patterns shift about. I like a totally gutted interior with one comfy racing shell and a wrapped steering wheel, I love a very visceral experience when driving. I LOVE being scared to death . . . who doesn't right?
