Contact the seller if interested...

When a seller ends a listing early, all bids are deleted.  That's why it looks like no one bid.  I'd been watching this one from the day it was listed, and bidding was up to $17K with one day left, and the reserve had been met.  I had planned to bid if it stayed under $20K, but I never bid on any auction until the last few minutes.  This car was one of two colors that I would own (the other being Meissen blue), and it was only a few hours from me!  I'd been in contact with the seller, but it seems he sold it privately off of ebay before the auction ended.

Used to sell a lot of motorcycles on ebay.  I ended quite a few listings because someone would contact me and give me what I wanted for the bike.  I also had a few auctions play out only to find that the winning bidders would back out of their bid.  I always liked it when someone called me and made me an offer.  I could negotiate and feel them out to find out if they were a real player and really had the cash.  I also bought bikes that way.  Everyone always waits til the last few second to bid.  I could never type fast enough to get that last bid in.  If the seller would not negotiate by phone I would make a bid with the absolute highest amount I was willing to pay. No one knows the amount of your bid.  They only know if the reserve has been met. If someone out bid my bid in the final seconds so be it.  Obviously I was resigned to the fact that I was never going to get the deal of the century.

Phil, do you ever miss motorcycle riding?  The reason I ask is I've got the itch to buy a motorcycle.  I rode quite a bit way back in the 80's and the urge is getting strong again.

I know you were in a bad accident a while back and that's the one thing that's holding me back.  I trust (for the most part) my own driving, but there are a lot of inattentive, bad drivers on the road.

Looking at adventure bikes, so I can also do some exploring in the back country.

So what happens when you have multiple bidders using SNIPE?

The bidder with the highest bid will win.. I use it all the time. Just determine the maximum  that you're willing to pay, set the bid lead time (I always set it for 4 seconds) and auction sniper will bid up to that amount. If the bidding goes above your maximum auction sniper will send you notification.

Who needs SNIPE?  You don't have to type fast to get a last second bid in on eBay; you just put in your maximum amount, wait until about the last 10 seconds(or 5) then CLICK.  That's it.  If somebody bids more with or without SNIPE, they'll win.  Doesn't make any difference if the bid goes in at 5 seconds or 3 seconds, nobody is going to have time to outbid you if they haven't already.  Also, ties go to the guy who bid first, so if you bid the same amount at 5 seconds left as someone else bids manually or with SNIPE at 2 seconds, you win.

As to selling off eBay/ending early, I think it's up to the seller.  His car, he can do whatever he wants.

Just doesn't seem right to me.  You placed something in an auction with a reserve price that is the minimum you would accept.  Someone places a bid that exceeds your reserve, essentially agreeing to pay you what you wanted or possibly even more and you can just say nevermind.  Like I said, "it just doesn't seem right to me."

When we were kids we would do something similar to this and then say "psyched" or "NOT."

Different seller and location.  Might be on consignment or a flip.  Wonder if the Porsche market madness is extending to our humble cars.  There is one in NY languishing on eBay for mid twenties that sold in S CA for mid teens.  Has those kind of generic Olde Tyme Car gauges.
