Ok, guys, I've decided to change my seat belts for some that are a bit more comfortable for me. The Beck has a modern 3-point inertia reel system that is probably fine for most folks, but I have a couple of problems. I had Carey move my seat back an inch from the usual mounting point, and the flexible stalk that the latch is on rides up too high, placing the belt on my gut, instead of across my hips - not the safest arrangement. On top of that, the loop through which the shoulder belt passes is a bit too low for me, and the slight but constant downward tension in the inertia reel gets uncomfortable on a long drive.

Because of these issues, I am going to swap out for some racing-style belts (Carey recommends Simpson). I can easily install lap belts using the existing mounting points, and I'll probably start with that pretty soon. However, I'd like to figure out a way to do a 3- or 4-point system. I don't want to put in a roll bar just to mount shoulder belts but I guess I'll have to fabricate (or pay someone to do so) some sort of mounting system. That's what I need advice about. Do the shoulder belts have to be mounted high - nearly at shoulder level - to work? Must they be anchored to the frame to be effective? I'm not sure where to anchor them on the Beck frame, so It'll probably be a while before I do that part. Ideas? Suggestions? Comments?

How many of you have shoulder belts and how many just have lap belts?

Oh yeah, what color should I pick? :-) Most brands are available in red, blue, and black. My car is a deep red, with a whiskey leather interior, and some black accents. I'm torn between flashy (red) and less so (black).

To answer two of your questions: yes, the shoulder harnesses should be mounted at shoulder level or above (if they're mounted to the floor, you may well break your shoulders); and yes, you need to mount the lap belts to the frame. The entire seat belt system should be tied to the frame, but the shoulder belts certainly need to be mounted high (to mounting points which are tied to the frame. Yes, Lane, I have 4-points. The kids use them, as they are so short(for now) that their head and shoulders are below the top of the car. The Vintage Spyder has a frame hoop at the top of the firewall which they are looped around. I only use the 4-point on the driver's side if the roll bar is installed. My rollbar is just like Lenny's, only black powder-coat, instead of chrome. The Crow belts are made so that you can use them as lap only or add the shoulder harnesses, there is a tang on each shoulder belt that gets captured by the lap latch.
I'm gonna have to start with the lap belts only, as I have no idea yet how to install shoulder belts in my car. I would definitely have to fab up something behind the seats, and tie it into the frame. The lap belts should be a simple, bolt-in change, as the current setup appears to be tied to the center tunnel and outer frame rail. I'm going with the Crow setup, but need to remove one of the existing blets to see if I want the bolt-in or clip-in arrangement. Thanks for the tips about Crow, Danny and Larry. Nice folks.
