Yup....That's what I would do. Probably re-arrange the lever so it won't hit anything and is easier to grab as well.............Photos please?...................Bruce
Unless you have a very short torso, at 6'4", that 914 adjustment mechanism is going to put you up pretty high in the car. It takes a lot of work to get a taller guy low enough in the car to sit behind the windshield. I'm only 6'0', but I've got a low-profile seat pretty much directly on the floor.
When my 5'5" wife sits in the same seat, she can't see over the dash.
I wish you luck. This isn't a small job with an easy solution.
Bill good idea from the pict he can reduce the side where the tilt adjustmwnt is not located and that should work I would think
Marty just got power lift installed in his
Well at 5-4. Or so they cannot see over the seat and then the car is so low my right seater is afraid ).
So here goes:
ELCO Welding here in Venice CA helped me out by cutting about 6" of width out of the middle of the 914 seat mount, making it 8.5" C2C, the same bolt width offset as the driver's seat.
I took that mount and bolted some 80s 911 seat rails to it, which have about 4" more fore/aft travel than the JPS rails.
I was originally going to use the seat rake adjustor for the base, but it turned out in test fitting that just getting the seat closer to the controls was enough for the GF.
The pic shows hinges attached to the back, which I wound up removing as I deleted the rake adjuster too, and didn't need to pivot the seat. I drilled out the stock holes at the rear and mounted the base right to the floor in the same position as the previous one. I had to drill new seat mount holes in the rear of the 911 rails, but that was easy.
The seat position in the far aft position is exactly the same as it was previously, but the furthest forward position is 4" further than before (about 1-2" TOO far for the GF). So, it took a little experimentation with fit and modding of parts, but worked out great. Now we can both drive!
PARTS & LABOR:
914 Seat Mount : $65 on eBay
1980s 911 Seat Rails : $129 on eBay

Hey have you guys seen this site...? Extend a seat
Years ago I bought a used Toyota Corolla from a 6'8" 300 lbs guy who had Dealer installed seat extender rails. ( driver's seat was smack up against the back seat) I am 5'7" I drove it for a mile ( you could barely see my head above the door) stopped at a lumber yard and got 2 pcs of 4 x 4 and a roll of duct tape ( yes they laughed) for temp pedal extenders, still had to drive home with my toes and finger tips :~)

Good job on the install @AdamC with that clever modification.
@AdamC Very cool solution! Necessity is the mother of invention and you nailed it!
Hope you can join us at our SOC West Coast Cruise in San Luis Obispo (SLO) coming up in June.
