So Barry, you chop up a Honda seat and it comes out lookin' like a convertibleD seat?
That's the comfy one, and I think George is right, 'cuz even though the dimensions under the seat at the rails looks good, there seems to be more seat side to side.

What pictures were you referrencing Barry?
I think the possibility of an alternative seat style could be good and I'd definitely be in the market, so long as it looked Porsch-ey.

Paul : Please go look in the file named Barry Hudson there you will see . I narrowed the base frame by one spring mount then lapped the metal the intire 3 inches and welded it. The back frame was a real surprize. I had to narrow it more to get it to line up on the hinge plates of the recline latch , Then add side pipes to get it back to the correct dimenion. I was almost temped to buy factory seat covers. But I knew a real good sewer/ulphoster and asked him to do the sewing he is the best,I have seen around these parts and there is not one pucker anywhere, Lewis Barber is VERY good.

I am 5'7' its fine for me but a taller person of 5'10"or more would not be able to fit, with the top up inportant thing I need to remind you about these seats. If your taller you need to have the 2"dropped floors. I am looking at redesigning the seatbase to get it lower . But you may feel the seat tracks when you hit a hard bump in the road.

Four more Pics the seats I am stariing worry that the file folder is to full. there are over 40

Check out the VW copy of JC Whitney. They have a set of Pro Seats that are a bit smaller then most bucket seats. They sell for 499. a set. I have these in my CMC (low back w/short head rest) low enough not to ruin the Speedster profile. A little snug going in but look real sharp and are very comfortable. A vast improvement in looks and seating over the stock seat and since the back can be reclined a bit, very comfy after a big meal! No digital cam so I can't show them to you, but they work and are real nice.
Just sat in and drove a IM Speedster with tan leather Ricarro's,
firm but retains the plush feeling. Measured the inside of the rocker to center tunnel measures 17 3/4 " If memory is correct that is the same measurment as VS CMC Fiberfab etc.
Seats in catalogs tend to give measurments by total width not at the base thus if the total measurment is say 21" they will fit as the base is narrower

Recarro.s are nice. I priced them , and carrbo seats and they are pricey, and still don't look 50's period so I went this way.

Doug , I will only build to order. and will have to figure out a fair price . I still have to pay Lewis for his sewing.

I do have some neet ideas to get them as low as the VS seats, or even lower. It will require side mount shop drawer tracks converted into side mount seat tracks.

Let me play with the design for a few weeks, and see where it leads me.. These things tend to take on a life of there own ,as they evolve
