can anyone tell me what other seats are available for the CMC 57 speedster? The ones in the car appear to be the originals from CMC.
Can VW seats be modified? (maybe from a notchback) the seats are very uncomfortable, and very close to the steering wheel. I have a bad back, and want to go on a long cruise...

thanks

Try the JPS seats that they put in their cars. Not only are they authentic looking but they sit you farther down in the car. This keeps your noggin out of the wind blast but also gives you more leg room. I think there are posts here that addresses this issue several times. This was one of the deciding factors of my purchasing as JPS over a VS, comfort and authenticity.

Andy:

I got a couple of seats from a Porsche 914 at a salvage yard (I had "speedster" seats from CMC for my replica but they were the pits and I chose not to use them). They fit in like they were made for them (which they were, in a way). Then you have the option of hunting for 914 seats with the correct color match, or you can get them recovered to match pretty easily, since they have easy-to-apply covers. Make sure you get the glide rails along with them, and if you're really handy you can pull the recliner mechanism - it doesn't recline much, but at least it's something. With the gliders you'll have over 8 inches of front-to-back travel, and they recline over 15 degrees.

Andrew I tried your home e-mail, but got no response from you. I have a set of newly repadded and recovered 914 seats. The are covered with Camel tan material, and were worked on by the best custom upholsterer in the area. They are beauts. I'm not going to use them because I changed color scheme, and I don't want to pay another $450 to have them covered again. I will give you a bargain If your interested...

I recently purchased seats from Vintage Speedsters in CA. Very comfortable and reasonable. They have leather and a leather lookalike called Allante which has a great leather grain. They were $250 each and well worth it. They also make other interior trim to match. I have a CMC '59 Speedster "D".
