Anybody know a supplier of replica seats for a 356 roadster, not the small speedster seats.

Your profile does not indicate where you're located but Vintage Speedsters in So Cal would be another option.
If you have a VW pan based car you are limited to a seat base of not much over 20 inches. The VS seats are similar to modified (over stuffed with head rest cut off) Porsche 914 seats. Others have used early Mazda Miata seats which look amazingly like the old roadster seats when covered in period style. I'm sure there are others that can be used - not only do you have width issues but the seat cushion can't be too high if you are much over 5' 9" or have a large steering wheel (15+").
Thank you for your suggestion, I have a meccanicca 356 with a tubelar frame, not a VW pan so I have plenty of space. Could use original 356 or 912 seats, but don't want the hassle of restoring and covering.

The seat base is where you get your comfort and cussoning I have sence designed a seat and back pipe frame from 3/4 conduit that's even better and all you need then is to rob the springs and latches from a mid 80s honda seat. I wish someone in the club could produce my design and use real 356 foam and covers.
Id be glad to send you tracings or even build a pair of prototype frames. That even fit a pan based car. I've done it once, next time would be even better. qualty wth the option for barrel back head rest. It will cost you a real pair of black barrel back head rest with mounts I'll build them. with the headrest option. But put the backs on Mine as payment..
Where are you and what color are you looking for?
I have a pair of roadster seats (Look just like the Roadster seats from an IM) from a '92 Chrysler LeBaron GTS in Burgundy that are mint but were 2" too wide for my pan-based CMC so I never used them. Complete with front/rear glides and recliners....just bolt 'em in.
Thank you for all those great suggestions, I am looking for black leather seats, the car finish is silver with a black interior.
I like the Corbeau Classic : http://corbeau.com/products/fi...eats/classic_bucket/ you are lucky it comes in black.
Check these out. Zeppelin style seats. Pricy, but really cool.

Reminds me of the handicap potty.
Thank you for the suggestion, but I am looking for a roadster style seat closer to the original 356, not a speedster style. My IM is a convertible D roadster version.
I already got pricing from IM but the $3500 price tag makes me want to look around first.
Reminds me of the handicap potty.
Good point. Dual purpose. Would be great for long road trips.

I have a pair of recovered black leather seats from my old 912 that were never installed. Contact me if interested and I can send some pics.
were the 912 seats the same?biger, better?more comfy? a good seat is hard to beat.
Not sure....better, bigger, more comfy than what? In my IM I have aftermarket seats, Recarros, but an older model. The 912 seats are bigger than those, wider. They are also more comfortable as the Recarros are just foam padding whereas the 912s are steel sprung, I always find the steel sprung seats more comfortable but that just my opinion. With my Recarros you sit very close to the floor and a little laid back whereas the 912s will have you sitting more upright and at least 2 or 3 inches higher...I prefer to sit down a bit lower in my car.
than the ones in my 356 I will be getting next saturday.,but I havent sat in them yet, so Im not sure.hope my butt fits. I have big tuner style seats in my street bug, they had to be squezed about an inch or so to fit in the car.hard but nice.
912 seats are very close, if not identical, to the regular seats in the 356 model range. There are small differences between the models and years, not sure what there are though. Brett Johnson's book on 356's is a good reference if you need to know those sorts of things.
thanks Ill keep an eye out for that one.
Please send me picks I would be interested. Thank you.
I'll be watching this thread. My wife has a bad back and can't sit in the standard seats. I'll see if a 912 set will fit in a Beck.

There is 4-6 inches of flat floor between the door and the seat in my Beck. I'm pretty sure my family room recliner would fit in there.
