The speedy usually gets a fair amount of interest during a car show - and in the past it has done well in the "import", "special interest" or "kit car" class. (Everyone, including myself, finds the decade groupings to be too confusing since it's a 1957 replica, on a 1974 chassis, that was built in 2004......huh?)

In any event, this weekend it was in the "special interest" category and I didn't win first place - and that's okay by me. Most of the fun at a show is just looking and talking anyway.

However, it was a humbling experience telling my wife that first place went to a bright yellow Craftsman lawn tractor of unknown vintage with a 15" lift kit, chrome suspension, oversized wheels/tires, multispeed transmission (none of that "hydrastat stuff" for this guy), and unbaffled megaphoned lake pipes. (Not sure about the size of the engine, but the bugger was quick and loud.)

Turns out the guy who won is the president of a local club and he really does race lawn tractors. He built this one as a lark and made it "pretty" as well.

I didn't bring the camera, but I'll try to post a picture later.

Bottom line: The guy deserved first place.

These are the only photos I could get ahold of, should have taken some of my own from the side, etc. I hope the car show folks have some better ones after they post on their website.

Bar stool, huh? I've lost to a few of those in the past too, but they didn't have motors!

Y'all are right - the fun we have with these little cars just doesn't stop, and comes in many forms - as do the admirers!
