In prep for my homebound leg from Knotts to OKC I am seeking recommened VW Shops within 100 miles of I-40 along this route. Basically; Needles/Kingman/Flagstaff/Winslow/Grants/ABQ/AMA. Any recommendations?

Same would go for my proposed eastbound Route to PA from OKC/TUL/STL, then east through Ohio and PA.

I don't plan on needing one but I want a list on my PDA and Phone just in case.

Maybe we should start a shops listing?!? I think Rick Davis proposed this already.

Thanks,
Jim Ward

Great plan Guys and Gals,

A lot of the collector clubs have the same kind of support network on older, orphan cars. When you get ready to publish I can add a name or two from Southern Oregon and I'm sure Steve and Angela know more than I. Good thing to have in your tool bag, alonfg with a cell phone. I am finally a cell phone convert, Thanks to Rick Davis!

Bruce, hanging out here in Oregon
Jim, collect telephone numbers from the big parts houses for VW engines. Usually they can in a pinch look up a person in the area your in and find someone who tends to order a lot of the parts, therefore they are usually pretty up to snuff service departments. I used this technique in the past with some success.
Bruce, and all. I put a suggestion for that under site improvements. Let's push on it and see if Theron can start a page for all states. Steve, that's a great idea.! I may check the VW forums too for lists.

I would like to see our network develop what you mentioned Bruce. We also could use a State by State Registration/tagging page that members could post on.
Good ideas everyone. I will check the buggy clubs Joel.

I am very confident that this Speedster will run perfect all the way. Henry is a detail guy and he leaves nothing unchecked. I expect it will have more than a few miles on it when I come up for the Knotts trip. I plan on cruising around Vancouver and the area for two or three days getting familiar with it and also doing a break in oil/valves before leaving. Henry also is setting up rack time in LA so that we can go over it one more time (oil/Valves, general checks) before heading home. Anyway, it's a great chance to shake out the Speedster with Henry's assistance.

My thing is summed up by Beth. PPPPPP. And Steve is in aviation so he knows about the adage that you can't just pull over to the curb at 15,000'. My background in ATC made me anal about having a "drop and punt" plan on a dynamic basis. Besides, there's always Murphy lurking out there, right?

Chris a paper back up is a great idea. I'll put it in with my maps folder.
