That's a great idea Lane.  My current D would make a great commuter.  And I'm sure my wife would be happy giving up her parking space in the garage.  My wife puts up with the madness pretty well.  Don't think I'm going to test her.

Mechanical inspection of IM6 is Friday.  Car could be bought by someone else before then (if they don't need an inspection).  Or car could fail inspection.  Even if I don't get the IM6 I may still call Henry and build a fast Suby based speedy.  Now that I know I can get wide 5s with 914 front suspension I'm tempted to try to make the financial stretch for a new one.  But obviously an IM6 is the ultimate.

Well, Marty told me it only hurts once when you build new ...

Actually you can get in a try a type of build when you choose  togo the used route much easier than going from new.  Well of course some have no budget but for most the depreciation hit is what gets you on the new build.

I have owned a few houses and you never get it totally right and I find it the same with these cars and maybe that is just part of the madness.

356A S6 is still available as a VA license plate.  Believe it or not 356IM6 has already been taken.  Is there currently an IM6 in VA?  I hope this works out.  I'll know by Friday.

I did take my current D out for a spin last night.  What a sweet car.  Going to miss it.  If I have both at the same time (hopefully not) I'll post some pics of the D and the S6 together.  Get the drool buckets ready.

And my current license plate IM356D will look good in the man room.

Not sleeping well lately.  Just need to find out.

FYI, IM builds Speedsters, Roadsters and Kubel wagons.

Speedsters and Roadsters are a la carte... that means you choose Aircooled, 4cyl, 6cyl, or watercooled, but VW 4cyl watercooled at first were new crate engines and today since crate engines are no longer available 4cyl Subie is the choice including turbos as well as your choice of tranny, manual, automatics etc.

That is why I stayed away from driving one ... Nah... just kidding....  but then you have to choose your medicine as they say, your budget and how much you want to be held to ransom to the P parts extortion system.

I mean when you look at a Type I, P and Subie engine you face the realization that the Yapan group has done their homework and built a solid engine, with solid bottom end, and some would consider them having beaten the  Allemand group at their own game.  I mean how long has the famous bearing issue been documented on the water cooled six and P has not bothered to really fix it and then you blow an engine and 30K later you wake up.  Sorry, I find that a bit insulting to my intelligence and to my person.

Now given a 356 replica weighs in at 2000 lbs ish 175 to 200 hp is a very nice responsive car with the subie power band. So far I like my switch from 2110 to 2.5L subie... just saying.   I'll admit that every one can choose their own medicine without denigrating the others choice even if you don't particularly agree with it

I found that you don't get much for second hand wives!  They are just to set in their ways and stubborn.  Good choice keeping the 2 IMs!  I thought next car would be another Spyder?  Or a 904?

So true, my ex wifes new husband sent her on her way after 3 years...

On the other hand, I picked up a good one on the used market! 6 years and the only tiff we had was on are wedding day, but has been smooth sailing ever since.

Just spoke to TROPIXX as we found that we live close by....am new to the speedie chat, just a couple of days. I told him that I bought a nastee speedo and apparently it is the IM6 that others were considering or wanting to buy. Signed up the other day as I was hooked except for the FUCHS on the IM6 and was looking to see what's out there. SORRY if I spoiled anybody's show. I saw 75 folks watching on EBAY so I hurried up with an inspection and BOOM....screwed up some folks plans. SAFE and GOOD HEALTH to all. Will be happy to share the nastee IM6.

I test drove that car... Loved it!  Scary power, great handling... incredible fit and finish and great details...  @Banzai Pipeline you will LOVE the car...  I was not looking to buy ( I love my little silver speedster), but could not pass up the opportunity of taking it for a spin.   congratulations!!!!

...and Akers (http://akersporsche.com/#about)  is the best shop in Seatlle for Aircooled P cars, specially 356s.... IMHO.   2nd generation Porsche service shop.  His experience, people and access to parts is second to none. One of his retired mechanics is the guy who has been taking the time to service my VS since 2013 and teaching me along the way... (in exchange for cases of wine and symphony tickets)

For five decades, Mark and his father ( who founded the shop) seem to buy almost every local 356 that comes available that the shop has maintained.... Their private collection ( multiple warehouses) is definatelly AMAZING.  A museum of cars and parts stacked floor to ceiling.  Mostly 356/ aircooled 911s, turbos and early corvettes ( oddly enough, considering they are Porsche people).

they host regular weekend drives/ events, and unlike the local PCA have always welcomed my VS... They are good folks.

The lost deal always seems like the perfect deal, but rarely is.  I know you were excited about it, sorry it did not workout.

I am a bit lost, why if you agreed to their price and had ordered an inspection, would they sell it out from under you? Out bidded on ebay? Fingers crossed Phil, a lot of ebay deals do not come through. So you might still have a shot at it.

Good news is both you and I have very very nice cars in the garage. :-)
