Gents:

I have made the decision to sell my Speedster.  I am offering it to anyone associated with this fantastic club at 15K.  It is a CMC/Fibrefab that I built on a 71 VW pan back in the 80's.  I have the original paperwork, assembly manual and it is currently registered and insured in NY as a 55 Porsche.

Recent improvements: Speed hut gauges. (GPS Speedo.)  New radio.  New seats. New rear brakes including back plates & wheel cylinders.  New 12 gal fuel tank, pump, sender, hoses, filter and Brocar carb.  New coil, plugs, condenser, points & plug wires, (all bosch).  New heavy duty oil drain plate, (aluminum).  New battery this spring. New stainless tail pipes.

It has front discs brakes, rear drums.  1600cc VW type 1 engine that was built by Fisher Buggies in FL. This motor has less than 1500 miles on it.  (600 was the round trip to Carlisle!)  Grant wood rimmed steering wheel, Porsche shift knob. Porsche badges.  915 alloy reproduction wheels. Tires have good tread but are fairly old.

There are some nickle sized chips on both door edges and some crazing at the top of the doors.  The roof is showing it's age with some fading and wear. The tonneau cover is in very good shape. (like new)  A small oil drip just showed up coming from a push rod tube seal I think.

All and all, it is a fun car to drive.  If anyone is interested before I put it on E-bay, just let me know. I can send pics of any details you need.

Thanks for your help and support.  A new project is in the works if this one sells soon!  See at Carlisle 2019!

Indeed, another 4 wheeled project that begins with a P and sounds like the place you sit in a rocking chair and watch the world go past.  That being said, even though I have two nice sized garages, and I just sold one of my favorite vintage motorcycles, I still do not have enough room for all the toys and tools... So, I will keep you posted on the outcome of the sale and what comes next if everything works out.

Thanks for the sales tips guys.  After just returning from a European vacation and anniversary celebration with my wife, I read the post, "Is this the future of car repairs?"  And, am seriously considering keeping my completely wrenchable, non-computerized, non-OBD ll, non-electronic, non-emission control loaded, VW based Speedster!  Yikes, my daily driver Mazda CX3 just went to the dealer for it's 60K service.  I drive a lot for work!  It is under 2 years old and still in warranty for major stuff.  The cost for the service you ask?  $375.00 and I skipped a $125.00 "cabin air filter!"  Yikes!

Next week my BMW K1600GTL Exclusive, (motorcycle) is going to my closest dealer, (600 mile round trip) for it's 36,000 mile service. It is a complete service with valve clearance adjustments, spark plugs, coils and such.  Estimated cost if "nothing major is discovered,"  $950.00.   I just bought the special code reader and reset computer thingy for my bike and my friend Pete has the same bike. $400.00.  Ugh!!!!! The future of car repairs is already here!!!!

All right now... Here is some more of the story.  My Mazda CX3 goes in for 60K service. They keep it overnight to replace all the fluids.  My wife takes the Mazda this morning to go to work and I am readying her car today to trade in on a new Hyundai Kona. All good, right?  This is from the same dealership....

Then, I walk out to where my Mazda was parked and there is a pool of Motor Oil, (full synthetic" on my driveway.)  I try to get hold of her at work, but she is out of her office and so I drive over to look under the Mazda..... You guessed it, another nice pool of oil!  I called the dealer and said that they should come and tow the car, call me when they get it, explain how and why their "technician" could not screw in a plug and crush washer to the proper specs.  And, if it is damaged, cross threaded, stripped or worse, we will proceed with legal action. Ugh!!!! Dealerships! Ugh!!!!  Should I cancel the order for the Kona?  Ugh!!
