Well, together with some friends we were set to take a nice drive to the Florida Keys for this 4th of July weekend in the Speedster.  Unfortunately we are having lots of spotty but very strong thundershowers and yesterday everybody bowed out.  It was going to be my last long drive before I sell.   I signed lots of papers (mucho $'s) last week to complete our new place in Colorado for move-in early next year .....  and there is no room for a third car ..... after all we are downsizing.  This is only a heads up to my friends from the SOC as I haven't worked out the details nor price.   Most likely I'll give it to Carey to sell.  They know the car, can easily continue to support a new owner and deserve the business.  I'll update by next week.

You've got THAT right.  After living in the same place for 35 years, we downsized from about 3.2K sq ft to about 1,100 and pitched a LOT of stuff for that move, like 12 pickup truck trips to the trash yard.  Then bought a "winter home" to get away from winter and had to fill that place, too.

Ten years later, both other places were gone (along with another 6 trips to the dump) and we're now in another house of about 1,400 sq ft, BUT I've now combined the garage stuff from the last two homes, so the garage/shop looks a bit tight.

I was just thinking the other day that it's about time to look around the shop and its' attic and decide what really needs to go (and believe me, there's a lot).  Either a "tool yard sale" or trips to the metal salvage/trash yard are in my future.

At least we've seemed to find a retirement groove, here, winter notwithstanding, and things seem stable.

We're going through a major downsizing right now.

10 acres, two car garage, another two single-car garages, and a 1.5 car sized shop.  All are full of 25 years worth of 'stuff'.

There's a good possibility our new place may not even have a garage.

Talk about a serious paradigm shift.

I drove Tom's car when I went to visit Carey.  At the time clutch uptake was too abrupt, something that was addressed at the shop I'm assuming.  But this is definitely a sub 6 car.  VERY fast.  Much faster than my IM.  If you want a car that can run with the big dogs, this is that car.  Car also has the nice 10 hole wheels that could be powdercoated or chromed.  Nice car.  Good luck Tom.

Tom---of all the cars I know on tye SOC this is one of two or three that I would trade for.  I sure would have found a garage in CO and keep it---but I can make such a statement with not knowing all the parameters making up your decision.

We are looking at retiring and relocating to Richmond, VA this fall to get between our daughter in DC and her family, and our son near Raleigh and I'm looking for a house with a 3 car garage or a set up where I can build one.  My Speedster stays along  with my banjos as my toys.  Hell, I just got it about perfect!

Plus Richmond is closer to Carlisle.

I hope you will stay as part of the group and maybe you will join us in Carlisle next year in whatever you are driving at that time.

Wishing you all the best in your relocation to beautiful Colorado.

FWIW, the snow on the roads usually melts off in a day or two. I've had plenty of days driving with my top down in December or January.  Most people do just fine with FWD (I use my 4WD maybe 2-3 times a year and that's usually when I'm taking country roads to go camping).

I've driven RWD on sand when I was a teenager, not too sure about how it handles in snow -- and dry Dec/Jan-type snow is quite different from wet Mar/Apr-type snow.

I didn't look to see what size it was but public storage units in Colorado start at $48.00 per  month. I'd take the car with me and put it in storage. See how often you drive it then decide if you need to sell it. Or make friends with someone who hangers a small plane and see if you can share the rent with him and put the Speedster there. In the summer put your daily driver in storage and use the Speedster as your daily driver.

You are going to love Richmond. It used to be the murder Capitol of the south. Not any more. The city is now vibrant. Lots of young people from VCU. Happenings and festivals all the time. Great history (except for the fact that the statue of Jefferson Davis at his grave is now covered with graffiti). Go to Carrey street and eat at the Can Can. Love Richmond. I drive my car through Richmond on my way toy getaway in Charlottesville all the time. Let me know when you settle in.

Used to live in Northern VA.  I95 around Richmond is worst stretch of I95 from Key West FL to way upstate NY.  It will jar fillings from your teeth and traffic is just horrid (it is about only N-S corridor for all cars and trucks on East coast). High taxes - income tax even on retirement, yearly personal property tax on vehicles, boats, RV, and motorcycles, high real property taxes.

If you are looking to build on water - I have over an acre for sale on Lower Rappahannock River about 70 miles East of Richmond.  About 1-2 mile by boat to Chesapeake Bay (near Kilmarnock - Mollusk/Lively). It's 1.2 acres with 300 feet on salt water - ready to build on (just needs a well).  $450k house next door. Dialog me if interested.  It was to be my retirement place but FL called.
