Well, together with some friends we were set to take a nice drive to the Florida Keys for this 4th of July weekend in the Speedster. Unfortunately we are having lots of spotty but very strong thundershowers and yesterday everybody bowed out. It was going to be my last long drive before I sell. I signed lots of papers (mucho $'s) last week to complete our new place in Colorado for move-in early next year ..... and there is no room for a third car ..... after all we are downsizing. This is only a heads up to my friends from the SOC as I haven't worked out the details nor price. Most likely I'll give it to Carey to sell. They know the car, can easily continue to support a new owner and deserve the business. I'll update by next week.

You will be jonesing for a new one within 2 years. Good luck with the new home and retirement in Colorado. Hope we can come out that way and visit. BTW Toms car is friggen kick arse.
I doubt it because frankly I don't think I could ever get another that pushes all the buttons this one does ..... and it's running great. You are very welcome to visit .... preferably in the Speedster.

Hi Tom, what is the engine and tranny combo in your car? I guess you'll need a 4x4 for all that snow in Colorado. Ray
2.5L Suby built by Jake Raby mated to a Rancho Pro transaxel .... geared for the Suby ....4 speed .... plenty of torque and HP as per the video below
Cartech - Ray ..... for the snow I'm selling the old XF (over 100K miles on the odo) and ordered an all wheel Drive Macan ..... arrives in October, just in time to head West
Sorry to hear you're selling it, Tom, but I certainly understand. Hopefully you can still join us in Carlisle once in a while.
Nice engine, you should enjoy that macan, my neighbour has a GTS and he likes it a lot, but at times he finds his a bit small, but then he is 6'4". Ray
Wow, very surprised to hear this. I know how much you enjoy this car, Tom.
Good luck with the move and all!
Thanks Danny .... looking around our house we have much to dispose of. Down sizing into retirement is a challenge of decisions of what to keep and what not to keep.

Very nice car and I wish you and your wife the very best in CO.
I hope you will find time to stay in touch with your SOC friends.
On a positive note it was great to meet you in Carlisle a couple of months ago.

Tom L. Yes ....this was part of a package of decisions when we finally committed to move to Colorado. I've made many good friends on the SOC and am sure I will be staying in touch.
You don't have to actually own a Speedster to belong to the Speedster Owners Club.

You've got THAT right. After living in the same place for 35 years, we downsized from about 3.2K sq ft to about 1,100 and pitched a LOT of stuff for that move, like 12 pickup truck trips to the trash yard. Then bought a "winter home" to get away from winter and had to fill that place, too.
Ten years later, both other places were gone (along with another 6 trips to the dump) and we're now in another house of about 1,400 sq ft, BUT I've now combined the garage stuff from the last two homes, so the garage/shop looks a bit tight.
I was just thinking the other day that it's about time to look around the shop and its' attic and decide what really needs to go (and believe me, there's a lot). Either a "tool yard sale" or trips to the metal salvage/trash yard are in my future.
At least we've seemed to find a retirement groove, here, winter notwithstanding, and things seem stable.

Heck - it doesn't even have to ever have run! (I'm talking about Schu and his red MG TD with the ivory wide body in garage ---- not me).

Yes you right! I just work on them!
I was asked for a picture of the interior .... here goes ....
P.S. the car was idling so it shows 800/900 on the Tach

We're going through a major downsizing right now.
10 acres, two car garage, another two single-car garages, and a 1.5 car sized shop. All are full of 25 years worth of 'stuff'.
There's a good possibility our new place may not even have a garage.
Talk about a serious paradigm shift.
another hot day at the edge of the Everglades .... BTW there's a RR Band playing in the bar that is very good

I drove Tom's car when I went to visit Carey. At the time clutch uptake was too abrupt, something that was addressed at the shop I'm assuming. But this is definitely a sub 6 car. VERY fast. Much faster than my IM. If you want a car that can run with the big dogs, this is that car. Car also has the nice 10 hole wheels that could be powdercoated or chromed. Nice car. Good luck Tom.
How much are you going to ask for your car?

Hi Bruce ..... I am curious as everybody else about your new ride.
I've talked to Carey about selling and I'll be sending the car to his showroom early August. I have purposefully not gone into details as I will let Carey handle it once he gets the car in Bremen. I have received several soft inquiries over the dialogue hence the specific pictures.
Tom---of all the cars I know on tye SOC this is one of two or three that I would trade for. I sure would have found a garage in CO and keep it---but I can make such a statement with not knowing all the parameters making up your decision.
We are looking at retiring and relocating to Richmond, VA this fall to get between our daughter in DC and her family, and our son near Raleigh and I'm looking for a house with a 3 car garage or a set up where I can build one. My Speedster stays along with my banjos as my toys. Hell, I just got it about perfect!
Plus Richmond is closer to Carlisle.
I hope you will stay as part of the group and maybe you will join us in Carlisle next year in whatever you are driving at that time.
Wishing you all the best in your relocation to beautiful Colorado.
Iron-Butt Jack wrote: "My Speedster stays, along with my banjos and my toys."
THAT wouldn't be much of a decision for me.......But then, I don't play the Banjo.
Thanks Jack .... it was a long thinking process ... plus the car is running super, frankly .... better than my daily driver

Jack:
Glad to hear no one has tossed those banjos in a dumpster yet.
Bob---well you may know the definition of "perfect pitch" and that is throwing a banjo in a dumpster without hitting the sides!
I still think we should try to convince Tom to hang onto that primo Speedster.
(Thread drift warning!)
I just keep hoping that Jack will bring one of those banjos to Carlisle and give us a concert.
(End thread drift)

FWIW, the snow on the roads usually melts off in a day or two. I've had plenty of days driving with my top down in December or January. Most people do just fine with FWD (I use my 4WD maybe 2-3 times a year and that's usually when I'm taking country roads to go camping).
I've driven RWD on sand when I was a teenager, not too sure about how it handles in snow -- and dry Dec/Jan-type snow is quite different from wet Mar/Apr-type snow.
Just caught Wolfgang's comment - talk about calling the kettle black...
I am maybe 5-7 years - your going on 30 now.
Just ship it to Alan and get it over with...
Shu... "That ain't gonna happen"... I'm convinced Greg's speedy is destined to be a front lawn planter box at best.
I'm going to park it right in the middle. (No, I'm just Flocking you!).
I didn't look to see what size it was but public storage units in Colorado start at $48.00 per month. I'd take the car with me and put it in storage. See how often you drive it then decide if you need to sell it. Or make friends with someone who hangers a small plane and see if you can share the rent with him and put the Speedster there. In the summer put your daily driver in storage and use the Speedster as your daily driver.
You are going to love Richmond. It used to be the murder Capitol of the south. Not any more. The city is now vibrant. Lots of young people from VCU. Happenings and festivals all the time. Great history (except for the fact that the statue of Jefferson Davis at his grave is now covered with graffiti). Go to Carrey street and eat at the Can Can. Love Richmond. I drive my car through Richmond on my way toy getaway in Charlottesville all the time. Let me know when you settle in.
Used to live in Northern VA. I95 around Richmond is worst stretch of I95 from Key West FL to way upstate NY. It will jar fillings from your teeth and traffic is just horrid (it is about only N-S corridor for all cars and trucks on East coast). High taxes - income tax even on retirement, yearly personal property tax on vehicles, boats, RV, and motorcycles, high real property taxes.
If you are looking to build on water - I have over an acre for sale on Lower Rappahannock River about 70 miles East of Richmond. About 1-2 mile by boat to Chesapeake Bay (near Kilmarnock - Mollusk/Lively). It's 1.2 acres with 300 feet on salt water - ready to build on (just needs a well). $450k house next door. Dialog me if interested. It was to be my retirement place but FL called.
Tom- Give me a call on your Speedster. I just talked to Carey last week about the used ones he has in Bremen. I can be reached at 920-655-2222. Thx!
Well .......... I sold it through Carey. The truck is coming tomorrow to take it to Bremen and then on to Hawaii. I just came back from nice farewell cruise. Car is running soooooo goooood.
Wow, that was quick! Congrats.
