Starting to fill out paperwork and was looking for advice on what to put in Make/Model. I can use Porsche in Make. Should I squeeze in Intermeccanica 356 under model? Or just 356? Thanks

Vince the form says make or make it is designed to resemble. I like Stans post Intermeccanica then Porsche 356. They just sent me forms and I need to fill them out and send them back. No one in front of me to help. On my own to figure out, can't go to the DMV for this one. The one guy I was able to speak with said no Antique plates:-(

I'll go for the Route 66 specialty plates instead.
Marty,I have a great insurance guy that does insurance in several states. He went through the Mass laws for me and is working with Henry to get my intermeccanica registered in early April to avoid any issues with emissions etc. even though I am not taking delivery of the car until July. If you want his info, let me know and I can put you guys in touch. He's a good friend and he specializes in high end auto policies and he does a lot with cobra replicas and registering them.
Thanks for the offer Chris. It turns out that I know a guy Just like the guy you speak of and he looks just like me:-) just kidding Chris, I am a broker and own an Agency here in IL. I have Chubb and it does not get much better as far as high end insurance goes. It's just silly that you have to deal with the State main office and not the DMV.

Carey, thanks for the tip.
Under some odd circumstances my Vintage replica was recently registered AND TITLED as a 1958 PORSCHE!

The make is '356A Porsche'
The model is 'Speedster Convt'
The year is '1958'

It's transfered title from Oregon clearly states 'Replica'
My insurance certificate required for registration states 'Replica also...but not as obvious. I believe the DMV clerk was rushed or preoccupied and didn't pay attention to the replica indication on the paperwork.

It would be tempting to change insurance agents and 'lose' the Vintage!! Then replace it with an IM roadster and an SAS coupe and still have enough left over to pad my retirement!!
Ok, I am getting nervous now. We are only 3-4 weeks from Carlisle and IL State has there head up there A_ _. I sent in my paperwork and checks 4-11(certified mail) and no one can seem to find it yet. I know it was delivered on 4-13. Anyways I am just crossing my fingers and praying for a miracle. Driving around town illegally is one thing but out of State is a no-no:-(
I have faith, Marty. I assume you've called them to ask if electronic copies of your registration can be mailed so you can at least keep paper in the car and hand them to the cop with an explanation?

Could happen. The People's Republic of Maryland has kiosks now at the Motor Vehicle Administration offices. It took no time at all to re-register the Sloppy Jalopy a couple weeks ago.

For what it's worth, I hope you went the route Stan and Carey suggested. I have VINs for both a 356B and a VW on the car, and every stitch of paperwork says Volkswagen 2S. The 'S' is for sedan, I presume, which allows me to pronounce it 'significantly modified' from its original configuration -- the letter of the law here.

I could absolutely abuse the Porsche VIN and data plates, but they're there because I had a pile of donor cars (including a 356B) and felt like hanging them on the chassis to assist with tracking the car on vintage days. To date, I haven't needed to point them out, and nobody in a position to say no has worried about what it actually used to be.

I describe it alternatively as either a '73 Beetle SS and as 'one of them Ghias you used to see all over the place in California.'
A couple of things come to mind here. Common sense and respect would suggest you call it what it is...an Intermeccanica. Your dollars invested and Henry deserves that. Look into the future...a potential sale years from now...you twist things a bit here for posterity or something and call it a Porsche and a potential buyer calls you out on that one . Does it not have an Intermeccanica data plate attached already ?
Ok, this is fricken hilarious. I finally went for my saftey inspection today. They sent me to a place where they do saftey checks on reslavged titles on trailers. The guy was nice but this is what happend. Pull into bay two sir. I stepped out and asked this huge guy if he needed to get in. I said its easier for big guys to get in with the top down and he said thats not neccessary. He then took his cell phone and took a picture of the Manf. Stamp on the body. He asked me if I knew where the engine VIN was and I said I was not sure. He said ok. He took two more pics of the car and I was done.

This is a saftey inspection? Never checked the brakes, lights, saftey latche, tires or nothing. This is what I waited 2 months for? I am so confused. At least my title and plates should be back in two weeks or so.
