Used the search function, didn't find my answer. My most recent car came with a CB performance tensioner pulley set up, I've always just ran standard V belt, as I don't run any accessories warranting a serpentine upgrade, but its already installed and I will run it for a while as it looks cool and is perhaps a performance upgrade of sorts. A debate for another post. I have new belt ordered, and will appreciate the ease of install when it arrives.
Now my question is about the pulley alignment. As you can see in the photo, my alt and crank pulleys are aligned proper, but the tensioner seems to sit a bit too close to the block and the belt rides a bit off center. The belt doesn't seem to be wearing unevenly but I am trying to get the "NO CHIRP" pleasure I am used to, and this seems like it needs to be centered. Can I just run a couple grade 8 washers to act as shims moving it more toward center? I would place the washers between the mount and the bearings in the tensioner. Obviously shims are welcome on a standard v belt set up for belt tension, but I wasn't sure about shimming this against the bearings. I will still have enough threads to keep it seated in place. Any ideas or warnings?
