As a result of 3 beers and some wishful thinking I convince myself that contact cement will be sufficent to adhere my new vinyl seat backs. The SoCal sun begs to differ.

So I head to my local upholsterer for help. Help to me means "take these away from me and fix this; here's my check". Help to him means "let me teach you to sew these edges because I am way too busy watching Oprah to provide any level of actual hands-on service".
Inspired by the fact that Cory Drake has crafted an entire vehicle from the recycled parts of a 1958 Hoover vacuum cleaner, I decide, "hell yes, I can sew!".

I managed the first 6 inches in less than 3 hours. The fact that I must now type with my toes and am soaking my fingers in ice should not dissuade others from venturing into this manly endeavor.

nice going, not for sissies at all, Im looking fwd to making some custom finishing touches on my cmcs interior, but will look for a machine not by hand.

well ,the guys at my high school always asked why i was in my third year of home ec.well i told them that maybe id have to sew some thing one day...and than they asked how i had soooo many dates.....there was a method to my madness.....Roger

I was hoping there was some sort of magical machine that would sew the new back onto the existing seat without a major re-upholstery but no such luck. He did however teach me a pretty cool way to hide the hand stitch.

I'll check back in 2007 when I'm done.

Don't over-do it with the hand-stitching. We don't want to have to re-name you "The Craw" - (as in the old TV series "Get Smart").
