It's all in the details! Looking great.
Very very nice. How thick is the floor? I think Vintage uses 3/16".
Man it's too bad your not bringing that blue lightning car to Carlisle. Nice job to both you Anand and Carey
@DannyP Yes, the aluminum floor on a V is pretty thick. Likewise we use a core-matte composite floor that is uber strong on our Becks.
The floor on these is paper thin, probably .032 aluminum. However the seats, shifter and pedals all mount to crossbars so nothing mounts to the floor and strength isn't needed in that regard
Every detail that comes out about this car makes me shake my head in wonderment. It's not just that it's accurate and beautiful, but also that every last thing about what Carey and Anand started with makes this ridiculously hard.
.032 is not much thicker than aluminum coil-stock used for siding trim (which is .019 or .024).
That's thin...
@Stan Galat — thanks for the kind words! Carey is truly incredible. I have never seen someone with such incredible problem solving and fabrication skills. This car is a testament to his abilities.
Here’s the underside, after paint. It’ll dry until Monday and then the upholstery will continue.

Outstanding!
As Stan said, every time I look at this thread I shake my head in wonder- the level of detail- Wow!
I doubt that the originals were built to this level of quality, Anand. Carey and team are doing an incredible job.
Spectacular.
For reference .032 is the thickness of residential gutters.
.032 3003 H14 is commonly used in building race car interiors. It is relatively soft and easy to cold form, such as bending, beading and wheeling.
The workmanship on this car is absolutely fantastic!
Beautiful workmanship - just beautiful.
The firewall is absolutely convincing. Just stellar.
Great progress from the guys at Special Edition! The rockers have been covered. They’ll secure them along the door thresholds with some screws a bit later today. Carey said they’ll hang the doors, too.
The tonneau is going to get test fitted again (with the doors in place) and I’d imagine Carey will paint it.
I’m sure there’s a punch list with a dozen little things that Carey wants to tidy up after that (Bendix fuel pump decals), 12v power outlet, etc. I’m assuming that there may be more after the car gets driven....

Nailed it.
Repairs on my defunct CMI 550 continue. Test drive next week, I hope!
Dude!
Oh My! I'd be conflicted.....drive it, or build a garage around it and showcase it like a museum piece.

Oh it's getting driven. Even if I have to walk over to his house, face entry, and drive off in it while he's at work. Oh wait, I just remembered, I can open his garage with his Home Link app since I'm an authorized user.

Holy cow.
During these trying times, when we disagree on so many fundamental questions:
- Does the executive branch of government have the right to suspend the constitution during a time of national crisis?
- What are essential services?
- Does a quarantine mean one can or cannot go for a pleasure drive?
- Ford or Chevy?
- Paper or plastic?
- Ginger or Maryanne?
It's good to know that there are certain things that unite us-- totems we can gather around, without disagreement or bickering.
Things like this car. Things like this car's interior.
Holy cow, @arajani and @chines1. Holy Freaking Cow. It's astounding.
I'd like to drive that once. About as close as I'll ever get to driving a real one, if Anand allows it.
Supercaligorgeous!
@Stan Galat: we can all unite around your superb command of the written word. If only I could write like you!
As for the car, many thanks. It’s all Carey!
More pictures to come!
Yes, Stan's writing is pretty stellar from north of the 49th we notice that as well, he was given a great gift
As I've said before, that's an incredible car, Anand! I'm glad the same craftsmen are building mine.
My god.
The door latches are right. The firewall is right. It's got the hold-downs. The stick, the brake, the shape of the sill. There are no tell-tales.
I figure I got my car's interior about 90 percent. This one is 100.
Well done, both of you.
