After much hoop jumping (and MANY THANKS to James Alderson) my 2003 IM arrived in Pasadena today. Horseless Carriage did a superb job and she's safely parked in my garage!

I'm spending most of the day primping her and figuring out what goes where. Also working on getting my 6'1" frame in and out of the car. Not alot of wiggle room!

Suddenly realized how spoiled I am with glove compartments, door panel flaps, etc. What do most of you use to hold car papers, etc?

Photos ASAP! Finally into the Madness! Think it's rather fitting that this is Carlisle weekend!! Best, Dennis

Dennis,
Good for you. Very fitting arrival. Good point on the paperwork. In Cali we really have to have our insurance close at hand so maybe inside the car is a better idea along with a copy of the registration. The Police don't want you to get out of the car!

Well, how is the horn is it loud?
What kind of security in any are you thinking about?

I am having fun researching these kind of things since my 92'IM Roadster is on the road from NJ right now.
Keep writing and tell us your impressions.

Cheers
Dave
I'm shopping tomorrow for a nice leather folder for under the front seat to hold paperwork. I've got to do a little research on alarms (leaning towards proximity, but need more info).

I guess I'm going to brave DMV this coming week. I've got alot of paperwork included and I'll get the appointment ASAP.

Saw your thread on your car's upcoming arrival. We're driving off for breakfast in the AM. Reports later!!
Dennis,
If you are a AAA member I would suggest talking to them first. The DMV is really clueless and they were very confused by my pan based IM. I think that you need all your build data documents, fill out a specialty construction form (PDF on the DMV website) and most important is your engine build year because this is what you have to smog, btw what engine do you have?

The DMV website is not bad and they have the forms in PDF and you can even fill them out and print them. They also have checklists with what you need. Here is a short list
DMV reg form
Title
bill of sale
Spec Const form
all build docs you can lay your hands on (for backup if asked)
a lot of time to wait in line (or go to AAA wish I was a member for this service alone)
Checkbook or cash (my fee was $1100.00 for a sale price of under 15,000.)

If you decide to do it yourself start by driving around to the back of the DMV office where the license test are given, a DMV guy or gal comes out and checks the numbers on the chassis VIN or IM numbers in your case. they fill out the 2nd page of the PDF reg form. be sure they fill in the right numbers, they will most likely be confused.
Then you grab your paperwork, patience, checkbook and smile (SEG) check in, take a number and wait. Not so bad especially if your wife does it like my gal did (she sure surprised me, and was somewhat of a nervous wreck by the time it was over) I had to remind her to calm down when she called me while she was at the counter explaining what a replica was to the confused counterperson who didn't have a clue. But the DMV people are OK and just trying to get through the day, remeber to not lose your cool and checkbook and you will be legal soon, or at least temp legal.

I want to hear your DMV story and good luck tomorrow.

Cheers
Dave
Oh boy, was THAT fun at DMV. :(

So, I've been told I've got to do the SPCNS route and my next step is CHP in Altadena (this afternoon). I'm not sure if they're going to make me do the smog referee or not. My docs (thank you James) clearly show my engine is a 1967, so I'm praying.

Got temp tags for 90 days, so at least I can drive her. More info as things develop.

Good work Dennis. Sounds familiar to me. I would say you are getting closer to your tags and with a 67' engine you should be golden.
The Highway Patrol should be way cooler than the DMV.
You will have no problem with the CHP inspector. As far as I know they just check the numbers on your car and maybe lights and brakes or you will have to go to a brake and light check station but should be no biggie. It just takes time. My next door neighbor is a CHP, she loves my IM. Gotta take her for a ride.
Cheers on the 90 days.

Dave
