If you want the most awesomely comfortable wooden shift knob that you've EVER hand in your hands, pull the wooden handle off of a Stanley No.6 plane.

http://www.eriecoast.com/ebay/070809-plane2/DSC00009.JPG

My Father has close to 100 wood planes in the work shop, another hundred or more in the garage and two or three drawers full of spare wooded and aluminum handles. I grabbed up a handful of each kind of handle, and they are UNBELIEVABLE ! ! !

And why not, right. What good is a plane if the handle causes blisters when you use it. These things are more comfortable and even more precise feeling than ANY racing shift knob on any car that I've ever encountered.

So . . . just run out and grab up a sweet wooden plane handle, trim and round off the bottom a bit, drill it for the shifter diameter, sand, smooth, stain, and polish the crap out of it. Pop a Porsche cloisonne tie-tac crest on top and DONE.

I mean you will NEVER look back. These thins are PISSA ! ! !
