Would anybody know the correct thread size to replace the shift knob on my Intermeccanica 1988 roadster, would probably be a VW, but the thread size could be 10mm or 12mm X 1.5? not sure. Thank you

My understanding is that most, including actually 356's, are 10X1.25
I have a Vintage Speed shifter and that's the size on it's thread, too.

My 1992 IM Roadster has M10 x 1.5.

Best way is to try known nut and thread sizes on it until you know for sure. could be metric or USS............Bruce
This^^^ What Bruce says is the way to go. A trip to the hardware store for a couple of likely nuts to try is cheaper than trying a bunch of shift knobs. I couldn't find what thread I had, so I got out my thread chasers and tried a few until I got it figured out. Often when custom stuff is built there isn't the same consistency from year to year or even car to car as different venders get used, or a better mousetrap comes along. Good luck!
Do you have an EMPI shifter? Do you know the company you have. With the VIN you could call IM directly for more into.
The orange store could sell you one of each size bolt as Michael said, and you can even return the ones you don't want to keep
the more recent ones, mine goes way back to 1988 seems to be more like a VW
shifter in those earlier models, I also spoke with Robert at
Intermeccannica wasn't sure either, I will probably order from CG Autowood
for a 10m X 1.5 thread and hope it fits.
Just take the knob to the hardware store and run a bolt into it to determine the size.
Now that is a good idea
