Shifting Problems

Recently I am experiencing some trouble shifting into 2nd gear. It's not all the time, but when it occurs it won't slide into 2nd. If I apply enough pressure it goes into where 2nd should be , but it's actually 4th. No grinding goes with it and as I said it's not all the time. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You could try adjusting the shifter position around (loosen the two bolts in the base and play around with it). Also you could have a loose or worn shift rod coupling. Check it under the inspection cover in front of the rear bench seat. Finally, your shift rod bushing might be worn to the point of being non-existent and that will also affect the shifting.

I had the same problem. Second gear was no where to be found. I just had it fixed. It now shifts beautifully. The problem was the tube that the clutch cable travels in. It was in 3 pieces and did not align correctly. They welded it together so now she runs like a new car.

I don't know how quickly the bushings wear, but I replaced that as well as most parts in that area a few months ago.I'm going to try the plate due to the fact that I replaced the stock shifter a month ago.
