I've shopped around for about a week and found that Hurst auto transport, has the most competitive rates and has been recommended on a few web boards. Prices seem to be about 40% less than DAS.

1-888-251-9822 is the number...

I am most likely going to use them in the next couple weeks to ship my speedster. So I can let you know my experience.

I just sent my Speedy and a '79 911SCT from Calif to Washington State and used John Van Dam Trucking. He was great to work with, and has state-of-the-art trailer. He did door to door, his rates were good, and the cars arrived in perfect condition, and was on time both pick up and delivery.
This isnt an intentional plug - just wanted you to know I had a good experience with him and would recommend him for anyone looking for a reliable auto carrier.

Ricardo,
Dang, CA to Puerto Rico in a truck? Hmm.... I think there's something you're not telling us (or trucks have gotten way way more interesting recently!).

All teasing aside, I assume at some point it was put into a shipping container. What was your experience with that? Any problems with pickup or import/export?

Well Angela, of course I meant enclosed trailer during the part of the trip over land. Although the car got here fairly quick (earlier than scheduled) it had signs of having been rained on (water and humidity inside the crummy Chinese lenses) plus the driver's door was banged up a little and a part of the side moulding was missing. The passenger's side door was stained with what looked like rusty water that fell on it. Insurance paid $575.00 for the damages.

With respect to the importing part; it's really not a problem except that the local government here screws you with an import duty; in my case it was an additional $5,600.00 based on the car's invoice; and that's for a car registered as a '68 Bug. Funny thing is that if it had the Bug body on it it would only pay around $800.00. Accordingly, price mark up for new cars here is just insane, a new Corvette is probably around the 60K or 70K mark. And don't get me going on SUV's; in 2002 they passed a law increasing the import duty on SUV's and cars with a list price of 48K or more. Forget about getting a new Porsche, BMW, Mercedes or Ferrari here...funny thing is there's quite a few on the roads here...I wonder where those people get their money from.....
